MIDNIGHT MAGIC – ch 11

Julie

(*)(*)(*)

Julie looked into the eyes of her new husband and without so much as a moment’s hesitation, answered, “Yes. Yes, I do, with all my heart.” She wrapped her arms around his neck, leaned forward and softly kissed his lips.

Mickey brushed back the hair from her face, stood and faced his aunt. “We all agree that our main goal is to protect Jules and our baby. Yes, you heard correctly. Jules is carrying MY baby. There will be no question about that. Not that anyone would ask but in case they do, that baby is mine.”

He turned, looked at Julie’s face and with emotional astonishment, she nodded in agreement.

“Hiding Julie won’t stop her ex or his minions from searching for her, and we can’t hover over her twenty-four hours a day. It would drive her loony. My idea is to proudly introduce my wife to our neighbors and friends. We’ll go into town tomorrow and have our vows registered, explaining that Jules Monroe and I were handfasted six months ago during my holiday from school. She stayed with my parents since there was no room for her at my dorm. Now that school is out for the summer, and especially because we’re about to be parents, I’ve decided to transfer my studies to the school’s online program. During the odd times when I have no choice but to be in the classroom, I’ll feel better if my wife and child are with family. But I truly want to be here when my child is born. I’m open to any arguments or comments.”

Midnight seemed as though she was about to sprout wings as she took a flying leap at Mickey and gracefully landed on his shoulders. She nuzzled her had in the crook of his neck and said, “Mickey, I know you can understand me. Let others tell you how they feel but for me, well, I couldn’t be prouder of you. I will make you this promise. During the times when Mia doesn’t need me, I’ll be with Jules. Mia won’t mind sharing and well, although I’m a witch’s familiar, no one really owns a cat. We’re our own species.”

Mickey’s mother raised one main concern. “Mickey, we can spell the house to keep out any and all enemies or just anyone with evil on his mind. But what about when you’re taking Jules out?”

Finola offered, “Liz, that won’t be a problem. I am going to create a talisman for Jules and the baby. No one will harm her. I can promise you that.”

Brian was the next to raise a concern. “Okay, listen, except for Auntie Finola, we’re all from New York where bizarre things have been known to happen. We don’t know this Monty or how evil he can be. Yes, we can protect the house. Jules can wear a talisman but what if he tosses something at the house and creates a fire? What then?”

Mia shook her head and chuckled. “Dad, that’s what the spells are for. You need to brush up. Whatever he tries to do will backfire directly on him. This will sound cruel but if he tosses anything towards the house to damage it, whatever it is will bounce off the house and go straight back to him! Whatever it is! A brick? A rock? A Molotov cocktail? Anything!”

He asked a follow-up question. “Okay, but that won’t stop, what’s his name? Tony? Getting back as his minions won’t get to him!”

Mia looked at Finola and Mickey. They walked towards each other, joined hands and smiled. Mia answered her father, “Wanna bet?”

Mickey told everyone that while he hadn’t practiced his witchcraft very often, being in the company of Finola and Mia, he felt the surge building. “Dad, Uncle Brian, you’re descendants of witches. I know you both feel something. You need to spend more time with Aintin.”

The brothers looked at each other and Ian agreed, “Brian, he makes sense.”

Morena was staring at Julie, then asked, “Jules, what color hair does Tony have?”

“Jet black. He’s Italian, through and through.”

‘Hmm.”

Realizing what her mother was thinking, Mia pointed her hand at her friend and wriggled her fingers.

“Mia, what did you do? “ Julie asked curiously. “You didn’t hurt me, but it felt like my scalp was one big tingle.”

Liz stood and held out her hand to Julie. “Come. Look at this.”

Taking Julie to the bathroom, she turned on the light and when Julie looked into the mirror, she gasped.

“My mousy brown hair is gone! It was toothpick straight but now it’s curly. And red, well not exactly red but like a coppery color. OMG! Mia, I love it. I look so different.” Then she realized whatever was changed, wasn’t just for her. She left the bathroom and walked to where the trio of strong witches stood. “Mickey? What do you think?”

His smile was radiant as he left the trio and hugged her. “Oh, well, it’ll take me about one heartbeat to get used to my wife having red hair but, Jules, it suits you. It’s perfect. I should have thought of this. I’m so sorry I didn’t but yes, I love it.”

Mia laughed at her cousin. “Mickey, you’re not supposed to think of things like this. That’s what girls are for. Now, if no one minds, my dad and I are jumping a line to my house. I need to make sure there isn’t anything belonging to Julie there. Since our predator has already visited Aintin, I’ll bring whatever I find here. You and Jules can pick them up tomorrow morning.”

Finola interrupted. “There’s just one more thing I need to do. Jules, please come near my table and sit. We all know the sight of your ex and his friend frightens you. I’m going to cast a spell on you that will completely wipe your mind of Tony and anything that relates to him. This way, should Tony or anyone connected to him come within sight, you won’t recognize them. You’ll have nothing to fear.”

This seems to be a chapter solving various issues. Can't wait to see how and what they do to this Tony if he tries anything. Good job.
