Me, the Old Man, and the Mysterious Box

the end of the world

By ABDOPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

It's not like all the stories and dreams you usually have, and it's often paranormal, but this dream may have been a vision, not just a simple dream, despite its ambiguity. It could have been a prediction of the future, like what's happening now, which is just the beginning of all the phenomena occurring now, such as drought and war. It was a different night, and the dream was almost different. The feelings were also almost real because I was deeply affected, as if I were truly living in that dream. It's hard to imagine nightmares that feel so real. In the dream, I opened my eyes to smoke and barren land. There was no water or vegetation, just barren land cracked by drought and destruction.

I had to look in every direction and everywhere around me, but to no avail. Nothing was green around me, and smoke filled the space. I was very afraid, and because of the unbearable horror of that scene, I sat there standing in that black world, sweating in place, trembling with fear. Many questions were running through my mind, and there was no one to talk to, just me and that destroyed place. I looked up at the sky, and it wasn't the sky we know; it was also black, with a few faint clouds. Everything was frightening; there were no monsters, no birds, nothing but me in that place, I didn't even know where. I didn't lose hope. I stood up and started looking for something or someone else. Everything was the same, and the mountains I saw were very far away. I didn't lose hope, and I searched and searched for something, but to no avail. In that place, where there were some small trees that had died from drought, I sat down, exhausted. Although I didn't feel hungry or thirsty, and despite cracks appearing on my lips, I felt nothing.

I sat there, staring at the ground, regretful, not knowing what to do. At that moment, as the place was silent amidst the smoke, I heard a terrifying sound. I looked everywhere around me and found nothing. Then the sound became louder, so I looked up at the sky again. What I saw was terrifying. There was a very black smoke covering the sky, in the shape of a giant skull, with a very frightening sound coming from it. As I trembled with fear, I heard another voice close by, among the dry trees. It was a voice so faint you could barely hear it. I approached it and found a very old man with a long white beard, like the Chinese, fluttering in the breeze. He carried a walking stick, dressed like a kung fu master. In his other hand, he held a medium-sized box, his eyes barely open due to his old age. He said, "Son, you are humanity's only hope, and you are the one who will stop this coming evil that will overwhelm the earth. You may be asking a thousand questions, but there is no time for that. Take this box and save humanity from this approaching darkness." I took the box from him and said, "Okay, but how will I do this, and what is in the box?" At that moment, a very loud voice came from that black skull in the sky. I looked at it, much closer than before, and turned to the old man and said, "Okay..." And then he was gone. He had disappeared, as if he had never been there, as if he had evaporated. I opened the box, wearing a superhero-like cloak. At that point, I lost consciousness and fell to the ground. I opened my eyes and found myself in the sky, wearing that red and blue cloak like Superman, but without the symbol.

From that high place, I saw that everything had returned to normal. I don't know how this happened, but perhaps while I was unconscious, I fought that darkness and evil and defeated the cursed skull that was about to devour the world. At that point, I woke up and found that my hands were still holding the box that the old man had given me. The dream was very frightening, and I don't hope it was a vision of the future of the Earth, given the severe drought and wars the world is suffering from. I can't forget the old man, the black skull, and the box that contained the cloak.
