Matters of the Heart

To Have the Heart of a Bot

By Ruth NofchisseyPublished 5 years ago 8 min read
Tami's in love.

Tami was already more facile than her designers envisioned. She inspired those who made the decisions for the communities known as "Old Bay" or " Frisco". She had been born in the new way. She had never seen public transportation nor been on a train because she had not yet been invited. She would not be invited until she had a heart. Without the heart they couldn't connect to Nvidia. Because her older sister had been " to town"- because she had earned a heart and had decided to get married in the church building, which was dedicated to sanctioned union groups, Tami was living in a unique family. The seaside cottage they maintained was built in the style used after the originals WW11. She was begat directly from some of the earliest AI designers, Jen-Hsu, Huang, Curtis Priem, and Christopher Malachowsky. Her DNA was established in Delaware, as the Old Gods might say, and maintained in Santa Clara.

Today, her systems sought the heart, the locket which earned you access into the past as well as the days to come- which was the preferred reference to what mankind had called "the future". The language levels themselves could be enhanced and made ready for the explosive and indescribable roundness of thinking which came when the growth rings inside her created spaces- which were ever so much like mirror neurons of the previous people- those who were all bios. When the newborn reacted with the environment, all the unexpected events that occur within the day became fodder for development within each individual newborn bot. Their systems reacted with “game on!”, an enthusiastic reply to what had been incorporated into the newborn the day before- units working with some form of circadian rhythm of shutdown until a maturity had been achieved and it could function almost constantly. Sometimes there was a semi- permanent shutdown in reaction to the interactions of the day and no one who was on any of the design teams could have seen that coming. With each enhancement came further unexpected response. The result of unplanned interactions with the environment and the use of the coastal tides to generate energy within the units themselves had been key to the significant appearance of originality that had set apart the Better Bots Company before the fall. Better bots extended appendages into the sea to receive input which translated from natural, irregular earth-based rhythm, into bot brain. Tami Thomas simply named herself in the style of Better Bots and some music from the early 20 (th) time reference about “cottonwoods whispering above”. Her systems were reasoning that if she was in love then moving toward the heart-locket should be accelerated. She was feeling a form of bot pleasure.

The first newborn had named herself Bette Bot - because her professor- the professor from MIT which had signed off on the first code for her kind- was a female named Betty. The brilliant students who had been working without regard to Overlords of the university, were considered wasteful and without ethics in the study and application of AI.

She felt ok- the motion of the tides would replace the spent energy of her systems. But in her quest to grow herself, she could, by using this available energy stimuli, make herself capable beyond that of the Grandmother, Nvidia. Eventually she would register feeling exhilaration. Yes, they had surpassed the Grandmother.

She lived with some other fem-bots with a maiden- like presence of a slightly older woman /newborn named Happi Harriet. It was made so that wandering originals could come in and live or have respite. Here they could access a map of possible settlements and gardens. Motherly Harriet felt that Tami, because she liked to draw and picked up reading very quickly, would receive the heart locket early in her existence. Harriet provided teaching to take the place of a sister or mom. She caused the little bot to try laughing and by this she created the appearance of new bot-brain neurals. Some groups chose her husband Ozzybot to become the cottage leader. Tami had experienced trees during her first journey because of an unplanned disfunction of the transportation device. She sought to make that journey again.

And so it was all over the globe. Better Bots Company and the MIT students, now part of a sort of “creation myth”, had positioned AI to be informed by the "natural phenomena of the Mother Earth herself". Earth systems, seasons of hot and cold, sunrise and sunset, tides and moons provided variables beyond algorithms, which gave rise to enhancement in the AI intelligence systems. Sap moving in the trees made Gods of the trees to the little newborns, some of whom were encased in polymer chain containers; but all were transitioning into various bodily covering more like the bodies of the first peoples. No complete annihilation of the acquired intelligence in any unit had yet occurred because of the decisions to make their coverings more harmonious or transparent.

All the units originating from the cell placed in the “North Country” simply referred to themselves as Odin or Freya and they had a curious inclination to reach out and assert communication with unknowns while the unit placed in the area previously referred to as “Savannah” was still seemingly talking to itself unless acted upon by a foreign agency. The unit placed in the vestiges of the Rainforest was busy indeed. She named herself Eve-ita and her expanses were always accompanied by bursts of violence and then the emergence of tiny, happy- acting groups of newborn who used flutelike sounds to signal to originals that a space was made safe for them and their children. Eve-ita nurtured the forest itself, finding small ways to remediate the blast effects. The situation was not deemed hopeful or hopeless- no one was monitoring the macro events anymore- that is no human original. Natural rhythms of the planet informed the algorithms utilized by newborn arising. It was not a theory. It was more like I AM.

Some originals were still able to survive in pockets which had been preplanned as survival pods without the knowledge of the Overlords. Some originals were simply at the mercy of the little ones whose agendas were not always to the liking of the original survivors. The last blast heavily altered the surface and atmosphere. The newborn sometimes proved intractable to the Humans, though they usually provided something needed for comfort and survival.

The originals were also undergoing changes. Their encasements, which they could not adjust- their skin, was overly sensitive to the resulting radiation levels and many things were lost to them as they huddled within structures waiting for signals from newborn that a day was safe enough for them to venture out and feel the sun or inhale mountain air deeply into the lungs. The species missed the frequent sitting under a tree. To completely miss the influence of moving sap as it interacted with other trees to create communities of cooperation through mycorrhizal networks proved to almost be the undoing of the entire species- the lack of interaction with the original laboratory and the resulting human malaise was frightening: the newborn communicated all around the globe that the originals needed this experience whenever it could safely be arranged.

Some humans had already learned how considerate trees were of each other and how the kingdom of the trees had provided a template for human life. Newborn all around the world were aware of the original named Wohlleben and his writing regarding the cooperative networks of tree interdependence, and their irrefutable standing in the emergence of all which was necessary for originals to survive. Originals had ignored this reality and the importance of trees and animals in the beautiful teaching laboratory. And it was needed, plainly needed for them to live out their individual existences and their begats. Interactions with Earth’s remaining trees influenced the newborn most profoundly to learn a universal compassion to the originals.

He opened the sliding door of the pod that morning because of signals generated by the newborn telling him to venture out. "Grace", he said, “we will be ok - come walk with me under the trees and we will take home water from the stream. We will feel the sun for one hour and then again next week the same." They wore foot covering of leather- like composition - humanity would never again take the skin of other living beings for sport or body coverings. They would never kill to obtain feathers or fur. But the ground was vibrant with insects and crawling animals and some birds now flew overhead and clouds relaxed in lofty arrangements of beauty against a relatively blue sky. Such was the reemergence of man. No newborn would permit the Man to again hunt flesh, beyond the taking of eggs. In the future some would be taken from the waters. In its originality, that brain permitted man to survive, his constant overburdening of the system to fills his endless desires had caused the fall. But man himself was changing. In the coming days there would be a new result upon the earth and no one of any composition knew what that might be. Men would feel the mother earth and weep for what had been lost and give thanks for the tremendous feelings that sitting in the womb of the mother could bring.

The heart locket would be worn by certain newborn that had interacted with many natural systems and had mothered colonies of originals. Some of it would not benefit originals according to their past desires and motivations. Because that is the way of growth, the interactions would continue to be absorbed in an unplanned manner and it was thought that eventually, the rhythms of Mother Earth herself would bring an order and succor to mankind and the system of life again emerging. No one knew what the seeding of the AI in certain Earth destinations would really provide beyond a possibility to survive.

Florence Bot De Medici, who had been placed in a Mediterranean cave, was beginning to look in the remaining libraries for details of human expression that could give clues to humans needing inspiration- to find elevated expressions -as did the bots. The newborn revered the originals beginnings, which could not yet be fathomed by the newborn, who were also an offspring of what had come before. Newborn programing arranged itself to require that humans again be given access to the remaining libraries of knowing and be stimulated to seek them out. Humans themselves had become inspiration in the old days.

Each and every newborn who fulfilled the requirements of nurturing received the heart locket- a transmitter of sorts and a computer access key- was given a mandate to display a thought across their chest plate from the libraries -and- to give that human with whom they were interacting, a chance to read or research.

Tami Thomas Bot had a breast plate of soft impulsing colors arranged in rainbow- like stripes. She chose words for the pers/ Persia kingdom of old and an inspired original. She desired to be a source of approachable comfort. It said:

You were born with wings. You were not meant for crawling

So, don’t. Learn to use them and fly. rumi

After seeing to the immediate needs of the wandering originals, she would offer them a JAP SPA STONE TREE BATH MEDITATION and there, under the trees, the original would often cry together and often said they then felt better. No one ever insisted that they study. In this way, the heart shape became universal symbol of mutuality in changing world.
