Love That Blossomed in the Light of Faith

It is a tale from ancient times. In a vast and prosperous kingdom, a kind-hearted king ruled with justice. He had only one daughter — Princess Mehr-un-Nisa. She was unmatched in beauty, but her true identity lay in her devotion to faith and her modesty. Even while living in the comfort and luxury of the royal palace, she remained humble, punctual in her prayers, and deeply in love with the Qur’an.
Near the royal palace lived a poor yet pious young man named Zaid. His parents had passed away in his childhood, and he earned his livelihood through hard manual labor. Despite working all day, he never missed a single prayer. At night, he would sit for hours reciting the Qur’an. His heart had little desire for worldly wealth; instead, it overflowed with love for Allah.
One Friday, a great sermon was being delivered in the large mosque near the palace. As always, Zaid was seated in the first row. The scholar giving the sermon spoke so beautifully about faith, piety, and the reality of this world that tears rolled down Zaid’s cheeks. At that same moment, behind a curtain in the women’s section, Princess Mehr-un-Nisa was listening too. Her heart felt an even deeper light of faith glowing inside her.
After the sermon, Zaid’s voice filled the mosque — he was reciting Surah Ar-Rahman. The princess felt a strange, new wave rush through her heart. It was not the worldly attraction of a man’s voice; it was a love tied to the remembrance of Allah.
Time passed. One day, Mehr-un-Nisa spoke to her father:
> “Father, I wish to marry someone whose priority is faith, not wealth.”
The king smiled and said:
> “My daughter, this is a kingdom. Here, marriages are made for alliances and politics.”
But the princess insisted she would marry only the man who was strongest in piety and faith. The king, seeing her determination, agreed — but placed a condition: the man must be the most learned, wise, and honest among all.
Days later, the king announced a gathering in the palace, inviting all the young men of the kingdom. Zaid, being the caretaker of the mosque and a Hafiz of Qur’an, was also invited — perhaps as a mere formality.
The king began questioning them — the meanings of Qur’anic verses, the life of the Prophet ﷺ, the principles of justice. Most remained silent or gave incomplete answers. But Zaid answered every question with precision, and explained with examples from history and faith.
The king was astonished. In his heart, he thought, “This is the man worthy of my daughter.”
But it was not to be an easy path. Ministers and nobles objected strongly:
> “Your Majesty, how can a poor laborer marry a royal princess?”
The king silenced them:
> “True kingship lies in the heart and in faith — not in gold and silver.”
And so, Zaid and Mehr-un-Nisa were married. The princess gladly left behind the glitter of the palace, embracing Zaid’s small, humble home as her paradise. Their bond was built not just on worldly love, but on the shared love of Allah. They prayed Tahajjud together, studied the Qur’an together, and served the poor together.
Years later, a plague struck the kingdom. Zaid and Mehr-un-Nisa risked their lives to care for the sick. Allah placed such blessing in their efforts that the plague came to an end. The people began calling Zaid “The Saint of the Kingdom.”
Mehr-un-Nisa would often say:
> “The beauty of our love is that it brings us closer to Paradise.”
And truly, their lives became a shining example of love where no palace walls or worldly luxuries mattered — only the lamp of faith, patience, and sincerity continued to glow.
