Across the Miles
Emma and Arjun met during a summer internship in New York City. She was from London, he was from Mumbai, and both were chasing their dreams, not expecting anything more than a few new friends and professional connections. But sometimes, the heart has plans that don’t follow logic.
Their connection was immediate — easy laughter, late-night talks, and a feeling of understanding that neither of them had expected. They spent the summer walking through city streets, sharing stories about their homes, their families, and the dreams they carried inside them. By the end of those two months, it was impossible to deny: they were in love.
The end of the internship came too quickly. Reality hit them hard. Emma had to return to London to finish her studies, and Arjun had to go back to Mumbai to start a new job. The idea of leaving each other was almost unbearable, but they both agreed — what they had was too special to let go. They decided to try a long-distance relationship.
The first few weeks were filled with excitement. Long calls, endless texts, and video chats that sometimes stretched until dawn kept their bond strong. They sent each other handwritten letters, small gifts, and pictures of everyday life — Emma would send Arjun photos of rainy London streets; Arjun would send videos of bustling Mumbai mornings.
But as time went on, the distance grew heavier. The different time zones, the missed calls, the loneliness after hard days — it all started to pile up. There were moments of frustration, arguments over small things, and painful silences. At times, it felt easier to give up.
Yet, every time they came close to letting go, something pulled them back: the memory of Emma’s laughter, the way Arjun’s eyes lit up when he talked about his dreams, the deep certainty that what they shared was real.
Instead of giving up, they found new ways to be part of each other’s lives. Emma started waking up early to catch Arjun before he left for work. Arjun learned to stay up late just to hear about Emma’s day. They watched movies together online, cooked the same recipes, and celebrated small victories over video calls. They learned not just to love each other, but to trust each other.
After almost two years of being apart, they made a plan. Arjun applied for a job in London, while Emma finished her degree. It wasn’t easy — immigration papers, job interviews, and endless planning stood in their way. But love made them stubborn. Love made them brave.
The day Arjun’s plane landed in London, Emma was waiting at the airport, heart pounding, hands trembling. When she saw him walking through the gate, she ran to him, tears blurring her vision. No screen, no call, no letter could compare to the feeling of being in each other’s arms again.
Their journey wasn’t perfect, but it was real. They knew life would still throw challenges their way. There would still be tough days, disagreements, and new obstacles. But after surviving the miles between them, they knew they could survive anything — together.
Love across a distance taught them patience, commitment, and the incredible power of believing in each other. It taught them that true love isn’t just about being physically close; it’s about keeping someone in your heart, no matter how far apart you are. And for Emma and Arjun, every mile they had once crossed was now stitched into the foundation of a life they would build side by side.
