Lost in Philadelphia
A Short Story of How Jim Wound up in a Holding Cell?
One cold day in February about 15 years Jim's friend Bill had an idea which he called him that frame of mind. It is a frame of mind where you are delusional. Jim didn't know anything of delusions, but he knew about getting in that state of mind that Bill requested. Bill's state of mind was that he had to go back to Cooper's Hospital for the Mentally Ill to get in that mind set for the mission of God that Bill always was talking about.
Bill said, "Jim I need you to get into that frame of mind."
Jim responded, "What frame of mind?"
Bill said, "You know that frame of mind. You need it to get yourself back when you go to Cooper's Hospital for getting your frame of mind back."
Jim confused by what Bill was talking about had agreed to the trip. Jim didn't know what was to come afterwards listening to a delusional man like Bill.
Jim didn't have much money when he went on the trip and his credit card was just about tapped out. He went on his two hour trip. I don't think he had gas in his tank when he went and he was coming from somewhere in North New Jersey. He then left in the morning. It was in a time where he had no GPS and he had to ask every gas station on how to get there and he drove not knowing where he was going. Eventually, he wound up in Cooper's Hospital and he want to get in. He started to cause commotion afterwards.
Jim asked, "I need to get in there." Jim didn't know why he was going in there.
The woman at the front desk said, "We can't let you in there."
Jim upset said, "How come? Why can't you let me in?"
The woman said, "You need authorization."
Jim didn't know anything about rules and regulations at the time so Jim got angry and stormed out. He got the hell out of there. At this time he was delusional. He got away from everyone there and on the road again he went. He didn't know where he was going and Jim was lost somewhere heading to Philadelphia.
Out of his mind, lost, he was trying to find his way back home. He thought maybe I could cross over into the grass to get into the road to get there. It was a bad idea he got stuck. He had no cell phone at the time and was stranded and with luck was rescued and his car got repaired, but by then he was broke and had no money for gas. Jim drove on at this time and he was delusional. He kept on cutting in from lane to lane until he passed a toll and wound up in Philadelphia somewhere he didn't know.
Later on he was out of gas and had to park his car somewhere in a neighborhood he wasn't familiar with. He went outside and he walked in a cold raining night in February where he was seeking shelter. Jim ran into someone who told him where the shelter was, but he didn't know where the shelter was. Jim lost his sense of reality and Jim was hungry. He hadn't eaten all day.
After a long day where Jim was freezing cold he did thing he could do. He took a shovel from the door of someone he didn't know and went into a private building asking to use a phone. They assumed he was not thinking straight so they called the cops and they surrounded him and they took him to holding cell to be processed. He didn't know what was going on and Jim went to a holding cell where he stayed for what would be a longtime. He was lost somewhere in a holding cell in Philadelphia, a city he wasn't familiar with.
Jim went through the processing and then was maced for no apparent reason. Jim didn't have his wits and he didn't mentally comprehend what they were trying to say at the hearing. Jim was mentally out of it. He had problems before and it was then where he had to accept that he had to permanently be put on medication. Bill tried to get him to ween of his medication before so Jim wasn't mentally there.
He was in a special holding cell as he realized he was mentally not thinking straight. Next thing he knew was he had a phone call. For some reason he called Bill's Dad who then relayed the message to Jim's family. J
Bill's Dad said, "Who is this?"
Jim said, "It's Jim. I'm in a holding cell can you help."
Bill's Dad said, "Do you know you are lost. Where are you?"
Jim said, "I don't know.
Jim then asked the Jail guard, "Do you know where I am. Do you know that I am lost."
The guard said, "We don't care if you are lost or not."
Just like that the phone call ended. Jim wasn't even aware of his fate.
Jim was a prisoner. Jim didn't know what the laws were of the land. He just knew he needed medication now and he had to accept it. To that day Jim had to have a cell phone on him at all times.
Before he knew it time had went by in the uncomfortable sleep he had in the holding cell and to his luck, his parents were on the way. When they arrived they were not happy to take the trip, but they were happy to see him again and happy that he was alive. It's just when he got back he didn't accept it and got upset and didn't agree with his Dad, but he had to go to the hospital for medication purposes. From one holding cell to a controlled holding cell. All this because he listened to his friend named Bill to get into that frame of mind, the delusional frame of mind.
