Little Buddy Babadee

A Children's Story on Healthy Emotions

By Annie RomanoPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

In the town of Zanilee

Lived little Buddy Babadee

He liked to sing. He liked to dance

He liked to wear big funky pants.

The happiest hippo in the land!

He was even in the marching band.

He smiled wide for the world to see!

Oh everybody loved Buddy Babadee!

Everyday on his way to class,

Miss Wanda Loo he would always pass!

“Hi Miss Wanda!” said Little Buddy full of glee.

He was always so happy that little Buddy Babadee!

He loved going to school and seeing his teachers.

“How are you today?” would ask Mr. McSneachers.

“I am so happy!” he would always reply.

With a smile so wide it could just reach the sky!

One day at recess he saw Tiny Timmy Tin Pan, his very best friend

sitting all alone, and little Buddy could not comprehend,

why his best buddy was not looking glad.

Was he worried, frightened, unhappy, or sad?

“What’s wrong Timmy?” asked Buddy with glee.

“Why do you not look as happy as me?”

“Well Buddy”, replied Timmy, looking up at his friend.

“I'm worried about my sister. Will this feeling ever end?

She could not come to school. She is sick with the flu!

So I’m not very happy and I’m feeling quite blue.”

“That’s okay!” said Buddy, “I understand your worry.

I’ll sit with you until you feel better- I’m in no hurry!”

“Thank you Buddy”, young Timmy replied.

And soon he too, began to smile so wide.

Next, Buddy saw his good friend Marty McMeatball,

sitting next to a basketball hoop that was 7 feet tall.

“What's wrong Marty?” asked Buddy “Why the long frown?”

“Well Buddy” said Marty, “I am feeling quite down.

You see that basket up high in the sky?

I can’t seem to reach it, no matter how hard I try!

I wish I were taller. I wish I could score!

I am just so frustrated and don’t want to play anymore.”

“It’s okay to feel frustrated,” said Buddy Babadee.

“You will start to feel better soon you will see!

Meanwhile I will stay and sit here with you

until you feel better, yes that’s what I’ll do!”

Soon Marty stood up and again began to play.

And he was no longer frustrated by the end of the day.

As Buddy walked home, he saw Miss Wanda Loo.

And she, like Marty, was looking quite blue.

“What’s wrong?” asked Buddy, “Are you happy today?”

“Well” said Wanda, “I’m having a bad day."

“My power went out and I’m feeling quite scared.

My lights won’t turn on and I'm so unprepared!

I'm scared of the dark! Oh, What do I do?“

"Don’t worry!” said Buddy, “I will help you!

It’s okay to be scared! We can all feel that way.

So until you feel better, right here I will stay!"

Miss Wanda was happy she was not all alone.

Soon her lights came back on and Buddy went home.

The next morning he woke up and something felt wrong.

He felt kind of sad, like he did not belong.

He did not want to sing. He did not want to dance.

He did not want to wear his cool funky pants!

What is this feeling? Thought Buddy. Why am I down?

I’m usually so happy, so what’s with this frown?

Buddy walked into school with his head hung low.

And even his walk was a little bit slow!

When Teacher McSneachers asked, “Buddy how are you today?”

For the first time ever, he did not know what to say.

He did not want to tell his friends of his sadness inside.

For he knew they depended on him and his smile so wide.

“Are you okay?” Asked Timmy, “You seem kind of sad!”

“I’m great!” said Buddy, “I’m happy! I’m glad!”

Of course, he was not, he did not mean to lie.

But he was scared of what would happen if his friends saw him cry.

They all depended on him to be happy and bright!

So how could he tell them he wasn’t all right?

What is this feeling? How could this be?

Oh he was so sad that Buddy Babadee.

Buddy walked home with tears in his eyes,

missing his smile that used to reach the skies.

But as he got home and walked through the door,

he could not believe who was standing on his living room floor…

Marty and Timmy and Miss Wanda Loo!

They were all together! His best friends! His crew!

“What are you doing here?” Buddy asked the whole group.

“Are you guys here for dinner? Do you guys want some soup?”

“No Buddy!” Said Marty, Wanda and Timmy together.

“We are here because you’re sad and want to help you feel better!

We know you said you were fine and you were trying to hide

all of the emotions and feelings you were keeping inside.

But we can tell you are down and feeling quite blue,

So tell us what’s wrong so that we can help you!

Don’t you see Buddy? You taught us the way!

To make people feel better day after day.

You were there for us and we are here for you.

We are here for each other, it’s what people do.”

“Thanks friends!” said Buddy, with a smile so wide.

“I already feel better! I don’t need to hide!

My feelings, my thoughts, my emotions, my fears!

My friends and my buddies will always be here.”

Thanks to his friends Buddy finally understood,

that expressing your feelings is healthy and good!

It’s okay to be happy! It’s okay to be sad!

It’s okay to be frustrated, frightened or mad!

Soon Buddy once more began to feel great!

He was so very happy he just couldn't wait...

To smile! To sing! To do a fun dance....

And of course to put on his cool funky pants!
