Little girl (year 2031) finds a beautiful translucent locket, that holds a miraculous secret. (Inside locket) a city of non-christians, survived the ending of the world in 2041, through technilogical advances that allowed them to be transported to a parallel plane. (A fact they should've asked more about.

2031:

Priscilla had spent the afternoon walking along the shores of Myrtle Beach, one of the only beaches that haven't broken and washed away into the sea. Alot had happened since 2021, when the coronavirus outbreak first mutated into something more. Somehow, Priscilla and her family had been found to be immune, and at present were hiding out from the government that wanted to study them.

Today however would prove to be a turning point for Priscilla's family and billions of others. Today she would find something more valuable than gold and more miraculous than life.

...

As Priscilla prepared to return to her family's cabin, a strange glint caught her eye just at the edge of the water. She bent to pick it up, and was amazed by what she'd found. In her hand was a beautiful, translucent, heart-shaped locket with a miniature scale, 3D city inside. She tried to open it and found a tiny keyhole instead of your average hinge. Dangling from the chain alongside the locket was a small golden tag that read "Salvation 2041".

Priscilla took off for the cabin, with the locket swinging from her hands; eager to show her family what she had found and unaware of the changes that now lay before them.

3011:

Everyday is the same. This is a fact of life for everyone living in Salvation, a small city with a current population of 120.

Salvation, rightfully named for two entirely different reasons, was once home to over 1,200 people. However, over the years following the destruction of civilization in 2041, the number of its citizens dwindled until only the strong survived.

...

Renate sat in the pew listening to Pastor Jason teach, as she has done everyday for the past 970 years.

Yes. It has been 970 years since her city had been relocated mere hours before the destruction of mankind in the year 2041. In all this time, hundreds have died, but those that remain have not aged, have not grown ill and; sadly; can not leave.

This was the topic of today's teaching, being unable to leave. Pastor Jason had spent the past 30 minutes explaining, for the millionth time, that he believed their current situation was God's will. He was adament that it was their city's unbelief in God and complete reliance on technology, that resulted in them being locked in a city that had no roads out.

As she sat there listening, Priscilla thought back to that day. The day the world ended and life changed for them.

The city she grew up in wasn't average. Up until 2021, it was a technological topia. The people were amazingly intelligent. Everyone had the answer to everything, including their common belief that a God existed. To them, there was no such thing as an omnificient God, because everything could be scientifically explained.

But Renate, however, always questioned that belief. If everything could be explained away by science; where then did knowledge come from?

No one in the city knew that the outbreak of 2021 would be the end to their entire system.

The coronavirus outbreak set them on a 20 year long search for a cure. Instead, they found what they believed was an escape. Over those 20 years, they had managed to perfect new technology with the ability to transport matter. Specifically, this new device could transport humans to another plane of existnce.

Renate remembered the day the world ended. The smartest of her city decided that it would be better to use this device on the off chance that it might work, than to perish with a planet full of people who allowed panic and fear to cause complete and total worldwide destruction.

She was standing in the city square with a large group of citizens, to see the device being brought in. She admired the beauty of the light-show it displayed as it was powered on, and the sound that was emitted seconds before the air sparkled and lit up before going black.

The whole city was blacked out, and she remembered seeing what looked like shooting stars in the blackness...

What no one could have expected, being a city of Atheists, was that God himself had decided where their next plane of existence would be, and it would be hundreds of years before the truth would be fully known.

Now, 970 years later, Renate listened to Pastor Jason (one of the few people who believed her unbelievable tale) and she thought about the beautiful being she saw in the darkness. This being had the most amazing diamond-like skin and wool-like hair. He had wings of snow-white feathers that spanned as far as she could see. The most interesting thing, however, was that when he held out his hand , palm-up; there was inside a crystal object that seemed to suck them in.
