Act I, Scene I - The Unexpected Inheritance
February 14th
Willowdale, a sleepy town shrouded in mist, lay dormant under the gray skies of winter. The once-grand mansion on Elm Street, now a relic of the past, stood as a testament to the town's forgotten glory.
Enter Ethan.
Ethan's '08 Honda Civic creaked to a halt before the mansion's crumbling facade. He stepped out, the chill of the winter air biting at his skin. The trees surrounding the house seemed to lean in, as if listening.
"Welcome home," Ethan whispered, his voice lost in the wind.
Two years ago, Ethan's distant uncle, Silas Blackwood, passed away, leaving him the mansion and its secrets. Ethan had never met Silas but felt an inexplicable connection to the man.
As he approached the entrance, a chill ran down his spine. The massive wooden door creaked open with a gentle push.
"Hello?" Ethan called into the empty hallway.
His footsteps echoed through the foyer, past the sweeping staircase, and into the heart of the mansion. Ethan's gaze fell upon a portrait of Silas Blackwood, his piercing eyes seeming to follow him.
Suddenly, a faint scratching noise caught Ethan's attention. He followed the sound to a door hidden behind a tattered tapestry.
"Ethan, you shouldn't be here."
The low, raspy voice sent shivers down his spine.
"Who's there?" Ethan demanded.
The scratching grew louder.
With trembling hands, Ethan turned the door's rusty handle.
Inside, he found a room filled with ancient artifacts and strange symbols etched into the walls.
A dark, viscous liquid seeped from the cracks, pooling on the floor.
"Ethan, leave now."
This time, the voice was clearer.
Ethan spun around, but he was alone.
Suddenly, the lights flickered and died.
In the darkness, Ethan realized that some inheritances came with secrets, and some secrets were better left unspoken.
