Miss. Owens had seen a lot throughout her thirty-eight years at the college cafeteria. She was beyond retirement age, but pressed on despite her failing memory.

One brisk, fall morning, she decided to make frosted sheet cake for the student's dessert. Later that day as she watched the evening news, she came upon a peculiar story.

"Forty students and staff at Langston Hall were treated and released after consuming huge amounts of Dulcolax. It's being investigated as a senior prank."

"I work there!" Miss. Owens said with excitement - which quickly became shock. "OH DEAR...That’s where those darn laxatives went!"

a bit of a stretch to get a laxative in a recipe...(but with a failing memory, one cannot remember one's movements, I guess.) Fun story! p.s. you start in present tense and switch to past - intentionally?
