It's Always Been You

'"If only, if only," the woodpecker sighs.'

The wind is howling.

It carries the agonizing screams of the forsaken upon its back.

She moves swiftly, shedding the souls of her prey with an elegance akin to a violinist.

The world is now still, holding its breath, tainted by the spilled blood seeping through the ground towards its heart.

I have not long yet to live. With haste, I write my last words in this letter, addressed to you.

From that day onward, it was always you, Kerrigan. Pity this letter shall never fall into your hands, never to be graced by your lovely eyes.

Perhaps it is better this way. Perhaps it is not. Not knowing will undoubtedly be my greatest regret.

There's this old adage, it goes something like this.

'If you truly love someone, a time may come to pass when you must let them go. And if they return... that's how you know it's always been real."

I suppose this outcome is what I deserve for being a sucker to serendipitous sayings about true love.

I’m sorry I wasn’t capable enough to catch up. I just got stuck.

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, and even… whoever you’re with, I hope the world gets to see more of that beautiful smile of yours forever imprinted into my memory.

Love,

Forever yours,

Jo—

Before he could sign his name, the angel of death swept away the lonely man into her wings.
