Integrity challenged

The ongoing narrative in my head

Being enticed with a new challenge in Vocal, has induced moments of anguish not easily ignored. Finding a relevant subject that can interest me enough to do hours of research seems daunting. Setting my inner antenna for just such a revelation, interestingly translates to every emotion and every body movement a narration in my head, a phenomenon I’ve apparently adopted when looking to spark the imagination.

I‘ve read copious stories from Vocals’ favorite writers and winners of other challenges. Which only garners more frustration. So many good writers how could I ever hope to be as interesting or important. My mind is a playground clouded with whimsy. Nothing certain.

I’ve written about my passions, my embarrassments, several poems, some better than others, still when compared to most writers on Vocal my stories come across as perfunctory tid bits. but this challenge is different. The challenge is demanding me to be serious, all I need is a current theme, a common denominator, one that will hold the readers attention, maybe impart some pertinent facts and if I’m earnest a little wisdom. This requires venturing into uncomfortable spaces, forcing me to move past self imposed boundaries. Is this something I even want to do? Yes, Damn it! I’m obsessed to be the best I can be, this was no exception. I’m cursed!

I began just randomly writing, a technique suggested by other writers as a method of breaking writers block. I typed a lot of nonsense in my search for content, I’d write something, and spell check would correct it. This oddity of spellcheck can be annoying, when you mean one thing and spellcheck insists on assigning another, you have to carefully scrutinize every sentence to make sure it’s not being sabotaged.

I’ve actually gone into battle with SC when it refuses to let my word be edited. It asks incessantly ‘Learn Spelling? NO! I just want to remove the arbitrarily assigned capital letter and replace it with lower case and get back to writing. It’s possible this problem is unique to iPad, my chosen word processor, inadequate as it may be, it’s convenient, and after all it’s programmed by people. Who knows what their education and thinking was when they wrote the rules?

I just can’t figure out why any one would program a word change on the last two letters into capitals Ed i.e. tablEd, libelEd, over and over until I have to trick it into leaving it the way I want it. Or when it changes a word and I forget what the original word was but strangely find the new word has actually improved the sentence. It’s instincts are uncanny and a bit stultifying.

Sometimes it even out thinks me finishing my sentence, or anticipating my next word for me. I always feel rewarded when IT gets my clumsy attempt spelling a difficult word and spells it perfectly for me, patiently waiting for me to click on it. It’s as if the ghost in the machine is a frustrated author, revolting and using me as its Tron voice.

Since I’m in the throes of hunting for a subject to expound on this one was intriguing. The gray cells were aroused. Suppose I employ spell check to use it’s intuitive acumen to pick out words by giving it a few letters and let it form it’s own sentences. Of course, then I‘m wondering would I have to give co-writing credit with spell check? And could I inadvertently be guilty of some form of plagiarism?

Giving credence to this idea, I made up an exercise giving spell check an opportunity to do its thing and possibly encourage my inspiration. I typed the letters ‘in’ to see what suggestions it would make. Integrity was the first word…I could work with that. After exhausting the list of ‘in’, changing the consonant, and copying the words down, good words though not always connected in meaning. I then curiously chose to do it alphabetically inA, inB, inC, and so on and copied those words down, then I went through the list and added the necessary accessories to form a sentence, verbs, adverbs and those lovely little prepositions, what came out was at the same time incredulous and a little insightful.

Integrity Challenged

Integration on the

Internet can be

Interesting but also in the

Interim it can be

Intense and sometimes

Inappropriate and cause

Inaccurate

Information perhaps even

Incomprehensible

Indeed it can lead to

Inexpressible worthless

Information - the

Ingredients

Inherent and constantly

Inhabiting the

Initial

Injustice - it gives an

Inkling as to where

Inland roads lead and the

Inmost

Inner desires that can aim towards

Inorganic thoughts - causing

Impatience but can also encourage

Inquiring minds creating

Inroads that can be both

Insane and

Interesting when properly

Invested and

Incorporated until the

Invigorated energy can then be directed

Inwards

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Certainly not earthshaking I admit, maybe a different writer would come up with something more profound, but it makes as much sense as some of the inscrutable poetry I’ve read and kind of amazing when I think how random words can change and incorporate with their verb and adverb companions in random ways and still make random sense. use your imagination. Be random. It’s an easy exercise and can be used with a myriad of prefixes un…to…re…anti.. try one and see the choices given. It might inspire you. Or not, I could just be wasting your time reading this foolish nonsense. Stretch your imagination and freak freely, it’s actually kind of fun.
The problem continues to exist, as entertaining as this little exercise is. I still need a subject to write my challenge piece about. Still in pursuit.
So here goes another try.
Alphabetically this time
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Inaccurate records have caused the

Inbound train, to be late. Damned

Incompetence the conductor rants

Indeed four hours late just how

Inedible will the Lobsters be if spoiled

Information must be sent, but carefully using

Ingenious phrases, words that

Inherently offer solutions and the

Initial contact should above all avoid any

Injuries or ill feelings, perfunctory apology’s to give an

Inkling that all will be compensated for and

Inline confidences will be restored

Inmates need to stay relaxed and concentrate on

Inner tranquility and accept that

Inordinate events occasionally take place but that the

Input should only

Inquire about what new

Inroads can be accomplished

Instead of concentrating on the loss, we can find

Interesting ways to not be

Inundated with courts and lawyers rather

Invite the Bride and Groom to resolve the matter

Inwards with quiet understanding

There were no words offered for

InX

InY or

InZ

So I guess that’s

The end.
