In Love with a Faceless Voice

It was a dream come true. I was about to give up on love when I met him. He was well put together, not perfect but the mirror reflection of me. The sound of his voice moved me, I drooled over his, every word as my eyes widened in amazement. I felt like I knew him my entire life. A few text messages later and I was head over heels. I could not understand how I could fall in love with a faceless voice. Then I saw him, a tall, milk chocolate and easy on the eyes guy, not movie star Idris Elba handsome but better. I became speechless as his words filled me like a mother’s milk that fills her baby and every word as sweet as honey in a comb.

The day had finally come for us to meet face to face. I wore a long white dress with red flowers all over it and four-inch silver heels. We had chosen to meet at Red Lobster since we both enjoyed a good juicy shrimp, our favorite. As I stood near the doorway of the restaurant, I could see him walking toward me with black fitted jeans, a royal blue skintight shirt that showed off his muscles, and a well-polished pair of black shoes. I stared speechlessly at him; his looks were even better than staring at him on face time. A real prince charming I thought to myself. As he leaned over to hug me, I inhaled the smell of his perfume while wishing he would cling to me a little longer.

Dinner was amazing, he was great company with a wonderful personality, a God-fearing man, filled with dreams and ambition, exactly what I was hoping he was. He was a man’s man, a gentleman. Any woman would be lucky to have him and hopefully, that woman will be me. He drove me home in his gray Chevy Cruze. I secretly looked at him in the corner of my eyes as my heart smiled in satisfaction. I was amazed that a man could be so real, so himself, so upfront. We had so much in common, it is like we were made for each other. He was Adam and I Eve; He was Adonis and I Bianca. I was flesh of his flesh and rib of his rib.

He gave me a kiss goodnight on my cheek as he walked away after dropping me at the front door. I quickly walked inside and slowly closed the door behind me as I leaned my back against it. I have never felt this way before, the thoughts came rushing in as I inhaled the dress that wore his perfume.

I know you think it to be silly, that I fell in love with the voice of a faceless man. But what would you do? Would you walk away from him knowing full well he was meant for you? Would you throw away the gift God gave you? Because I won’t.

Last night was our second date. He picked me up at my door with the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. They smelt like they were picked from heaven itself. I haven’t eaten at many fast-food restaurants, but we wanted our second date to be somewhat carefree. So, we ate at Steak and Shake. Turns out the food there is amazing. It might just be my favorite fast-food place ever. After, we took a long romantic walk getting to know each other a little more. The night seemed to pass very quickly. I enjoyed every moment as the wind brushed against our faces while we watched the stars twinkling in the night sky. He was such a gentleman, the way he gently swept my hair from my face and placed his jacket over my shoulder to ensure that I was warm enough. Even the way he said goodnight as he dropped me home kissing me lightly on my cheek. People may say it's too good to be true, but I say, anything God has a hand in, is too true to not be good. I believe the heart has a way of always finding where it belongs.
