Two political opponents sit for a drink together.
As he prepared to shoot another commercial for his campaign, Cardwell Dugger kept his mind focused on the various ways he could improve the state. Delaware needed a leader, not a nanny. It needed a governor who could basically have “hands off” policies.
He took it as an affront that his political opponent had plans to incorporate Communist ideals into the political arena. As a capitalist, he knew that he had to deter the momentum that Grayson Jacks had already gained.
The two men actually met at the Mercier Hotel in Wilmington, Delaware. The bar drew them.
“Scotch on the rocks,” Jacks called to the bartender.
“Whiskey. Neat,” Dugger said.
“So, the communist and the capitalist meet,” Jacks remarked, sipping his drink.
“You can’t win, Gray’. The people will not—”
“The people! Since when did you care about the people? Oh, I guess when you started your campaign. Why don’t you explain your private equity firm to ‘the people….’”
“I can explain my firm all day. Can you explain why Communism is a system made for and by brutes and butchers?” Dugger shot back at Jacks. The scotch drinker choked on a piece of ice.
“Ah, you mean the twentieth century. Communism in the twenty-first century is totally different.”
“How so?”
“Well, we believe that the bourgeoisie and the proletariat can be as one, now. No clashes between the classes, if you know what I mean.”
“I don’t and I don’t think you know either,” Dugger made it plain.
“Okay. Fair. But I’ll get the votes based on the revamped ideas of the Party. By knowing my base, I know that these Delawareans will lap up something new.” He chuckled to himself. Sheeple.” Then lights came up and cameras zoomed in as Jacks found himself in Dugger’s own political ad.

I appreciate the humor here, and (to me at least) it accurately captures the competitive nature these politicians often have. Well done.
Great story. Such a nice Read.
