They clung to each other in a desperate attempt to feel protected from the things that go bump in the night. Michelle’s breathing had become labored. The fear was so deeply entrenched inside of her that she didn’t know what was going to happen next. She feared her heart would implode from the strain.

“I’m scared,” she whispered. Her voice was barely audible as the tears she hadn't realized were falling stained her cheeks. David looked at her and gazed into her eyes. He was searching her face for the answers to the millions of questions that had flooded through his mind. He had borne witness to something he had never seen before. The thought was not lost on him that perhaps he was losing his mind the way he had believed that she was losing hers.

He wondered if he should take her and move someplace else. Something was wrong with their home. He knew that much was clear but he didn't know if the problems they were experiencing go away if he walked out of the house. He didn’t have any answers and that left him frustrated and angry. ‘It isn’t her fault’ he reminded himself as he felt a rage building inside of him.

“This isn’t your fault,” he said out loud.

She looked up at him. Her eyes had begun to change and suddenly it was him that was filled with fear as they glowed red like fire.

“Do you think I would let you take her from me?” the discarnate entity said through Michelle’s body.

David released his grip from his wife who had now appeared to be someone else and stepped back. He found himself filled with guttural fear and he didn’t know what to do.

“I…” he stammered.

“I….” the voice mocked. “Pathetic, why she would want to be with someone as pathetic as you is beyond my comprehension. No worries. I will take good care of this body. You run along now,” it said as it shooed him away.

David stood there frozen in place as he attempted to process what was happening. He couldn’t understand if what he was experiencing was real or if his wife had completely lost control of her faculties. “Michelle, baby listen to me. You aren’t acting like yourself right now,” he said as he attempted to regain control of the situation. It was spiraling so quickly that he didn't know if he would be able to find the strength to stand strong for the woman that he loved. The person before him was something else entirely.

“Michelle, baby listen to me. You aren’t acting like yourself right now...blah..blah, blah. I will give you one more chance to run along before I make you.” The voice stated as he continued to mock David. The face that was once Michelle looked contorted and evil. It sent a shock wave of terror through David. He felt as though he was losing control of his body and his mind and was seconds away from fleeing.

David could tell that this wasn’t Michelle’s voice but a part of him believed that she was somewhere still inside of her body. She had to be because if she wasn’t he wasn’t sure what he would do. He didn’t want to live without her. He didn’t want to be without her in his life. Yet, at this moment he was so afraid of what she had become he wasn’t sure that he would be willing to spend the rest of his life with this monster in front of him. 'Is this monster going to steal her from me?' he questioned in his mind as his legs trembled and nearly gave out from under him.

“Monster, you say?” the entity asked.

David stood stunned, “Did you just read my mind?” he asked with a tremor in his voice.

“Did I just read your mind? Of course you idiot. I know everything that you are thinking. You wear your thoughts on your face. So listen, I am reasonable. I can tell that you want to flee...I give you permission. I won’t chase you or anything. You go and leave this body here for me to use. That’s it. It is a simple action. People do it all the time. They walk out. Why should you be any different? I will even close my eyes so she doesn’t have to watch you do it.” the entity closed the eyes of Michelle’s body. “See...I am kind. I am doing you a kindness. Never say I didn’t do anything for you,” the entity winked with its eyes closed.

David stood frozen in place and before he knew what he was doing he had started to run.
