HOW A MAN SURVIVIED BEEN BURIED ALIVE
A man named Paul Conroy awakens in a dim, cramped enclosure, his hands and mouth bound. He notices a lighter nearby and, upon igniting it, shockingly discovers that he is trapped inside a coffin. After a struggle, Paul manages to remove the cloth covering his mouth and starts screaming for help, only to realize that no one can hear him. He attempts to open the coffin but finds it increasingly difficult due to his bound hands. Paul realizes that he is about to experience a terrifying ordeal. Suddenly, he spots a nail and uses it to free his hands, bringing a sigh of relief. With renewed determination, he tries to open the coffin again, but fails. As hope dwindles, he screams in despair.
Suddenly, Paul hears the sound of a vibrating phone. Upon inspecting, he finds a phone and manages to call the emergency helpline, fortunately connecting with an operator. Paul introduces himself as an American citizen working as a truck driver in Iraq and explains his dire situation. However, the operator mentions being based in Ohio and unable to offer much assistance. Paul tries calling his wife multiple times, but she doesn't answer, so he leaves her a message informing her of his predicament and asks her to contact the National Guard.
In desperation, Paul calls the Chicago FBI and explains his ordeal to an agent. He recounts working as a truck driver in Iraq and being attacked by children throwing stones, followed by a fatal shooting that resulted in the deaths of several colleagues. Paul's memory then goes blank, and when he regains consciousness, he finds himself trapped in the coffin. However, during his explanation, the call abruptly gets disconnected, leaving him in a state of panic.
Paul desperately searches for a signal and manages to call the FBI again, only to reach a different agent. He is asked for a security code from their previous conversation, which he didn't note down, resulting in the call going to voicemail and ending. The grim realization dawns on Paul that he may not survive this ordeal. However, he recalls receiving a missed call while on the line with the FBI, prompting him to call back. On the other end, a man answers and asks if he is an American soldier. Paul clarifies that he is just a truck driver in Iraq, but the man remains skeptical, demanding five million dollars within a deadline of 9 PM. If Paul fails to provide the money, he will be buried alive. This man is revealed to be responsible for Paul's predicament.
Nervously, Paul explains his financial limitations, emphasizing that he is just an ordinary truck driver without that kind of money. The man suggests contacting the American Embassy, believing they would pay the ransom. Paul, doubtful of the embassy's assistance, decides to call the state government, receiving the number from his sister-in-law. He provides them with all the information, and the woman on the line reveals they already know about his situation. Despite his hopes, they cannot provide the five million dollars due to their no-negotiation policy with terrorists. Frustrated, Paul expresses his dire circumstances and concerns for his family's future after his potential demise. Finally, the woman shows sympathy and provides Paul with the number of Dan, the commander of the hostage group in Iraq, believing he can assist him.
Paul contacts Dan, who assures him that they are aware of his situation and advises him to stay calm, ensuring his safety before 9 PM. Dan instructs Paul to mute his phone to save battery and conserve oxygen inside the coffin. Shortly after their conversation ends, the kidnapper calls again, learning about the failed negotiation with the government. Surprisingly, he reduces the ransom to one million dollars. He demands Paul to record a video asking the government for the ransom, also revealing a
bag inside the coffin containing a script, a knife, and alcohol. Reluctantly, Paul records the video.
While waiting, Paul receives a video message from the kidnapper featuring his friend Pamela, who had been captured as well. The kidnapper threatens her life, instilling fear in Paul. He contacts the kidnapper, pleading for her safety. The kidnapper shares his grievances, mentioning the loss of his children due to American soldiers. Paul, overwhelmed, agrees to the kidnapper's demands and records another video, all while a venomous snake enters the coffin through a hole. Paul manages to scare the snake away by setting a fire using the alcohol.
Soon after, Paul receives a video message from Pamela, who reveals that the American government didn't help her or comply with the kidnapper's demands. In the chilling video, Pamela is shot in the head. Distraught, Paul vomits in the coffin, believing his fate is sealed. However, he receives a call from Dan, who informs him that recording the video was a ploy by the kidnappers to pressure the government. Dan explains that an explosion occurred, potentially killing the kidnapper, but sand continues to fill the coffin, diminishing Paul's hope. He records a final video for his wife and son, expressing his love and bidding farewell.
As sand relentlessly pours in, Paul receives another call from the kidnapper. Threatening his family, the kidnapper demands that Paul cut his own finger and record a video to further pressure the government. Fearful for his family's safety, Paul complies. Suddenly, a ray of light seems to offer salvation, but Paul realizes it was a hallucination. His hopes crushed; he accepts his impending death. Dan calls to apologize for not saving him, and the coffin fills with sand as the lights fade out.
