One Halloween night several years ago, a scarecrow grew bored hanging on his stand and decided to see the sights of the land around him. So he climbed down and headed for the nearest town. Grabbing a hoodie off a clothesline on his way in, he hid his burlap face away from all who would see.
Upon arriving in town, he was amazed at what he saw. Several human children run around dressed as creatures: angels, devils, monsters, superheroes, ghosts, and scarecrows. Each child went from house to house, ringing doorbells answered by witches, doctors, nurses, and nightmares, and each child received a bag of candy.
The scarecrow joined the children to see what all the fuss was about. At each house, they raved over the originality of his costume and that he must have put a lot of work into it to make it so realistic before giving bags of candy to him.
He had so much fun going door to door the scarecrow swore that he would do so again next year as he climbed back upon his post. His favorite candy was the haystacks a few people were handing out, but he also liked the candy corn, which tasted better than the hay and corn he was used to eating.
The following day, the people who owned the scarecrow prepared to winterize him. They wondered where the hoodie and candy in its pockets had come from. Laughing, they figured a few kids had passed through their field on their way home. They never suspected the truth or the fact when it happened every year afterward.
