Harry Potter vs. Fantastic Beasts: Which Series Did It Better?

Magical Worlds Collide: The Power of Storytelling

By Bishnu Kumar Published 10 months ago 4 min read

The Great Wizarding World Debate was about to take place. The interiors of Hogwarts were filled with the flickering banners showing the world of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts; the golds and blues mixing beautifully.

A crowd full of witches, wizards, and every magical being attended to witness history being made: which series was better? Clearly, an absolutely shocking vision to behold.

Deep within the crowd there were two distinct figures: a wise, elder-looking Dumbledore, emblematic of Fantastic Beasts, and the always fascinated Hermione Granger, who was on team Harry Potter.

An argument was about to be recorded by the enchanted quill hovering mid-air, prepared to capture each tiny little detail.

The Influence Of Storytelling “Fantastic Beasts, as the title suggests, shifts the focus of the story beyond Hogwarts through an epic tale of not just a boy but an entire bygone era of magic, complete with new creatures, new spells, and a battle of ideas culminating in a wondrous expansion of magic and knowledge,” explained Dumbledore while stroking his long silver beard.

“Dumbledore, I feel you have forgotten one central argument: Harry Potter is not only about knowledge. It is heart and bravery, magic, and growing up.

Every child who wished to be a wizard saw themselves in the adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Hogwarts was home, and the war against Voldemort was not only Harry’s battle but ours too,” remarked Hermione.

The crowd was silenced. The strain from nostalgia was palpable but had lost out to the need for an answer regarding Fantastic Beasts. And then it began to shift again.

The magic, world-building and characters Madame Pompadour, Queen Victoria, and Flitwick, from the imaginative audience in his chairs, put up their wands seemingly.

“Which series incorporates deeper aspects of magic?” questioned Professor Flitwick. Curious questions about the world-building arose. Seated in an audience, he emphasized with raised hands.

Dumbledore smiled. Fantastic Beasts is set in the 1920s and so provides new angles to view wizarding society“.

It is a time period rife with enigmas, where the existence of magic is concealed in real-life history, intertwined with time.

Hermione nodded but added, “True, but Harry, Ron, and I weren’t just heroes—we were students, friends, and fighters. Our bonds carried us through darkness, and the people we met—Sirius, Snape, and Dobby—left a mark on our hearts forever. Tell me, Headmaster, is there a single character in Fantastic Beasts that holds the weight of, say, Severus Snape?”

Dumbledore hesitated. Like an incantation, the name Snape echoed through the corridors. The Villain Factor From the shadows, a slow, menacing clap echoed. The crowd turned, and standing at the back of the hall was none other than Draco Malfoy. “Let’s talk about villains,” he said, stepping forward.

“Grindelwald vs. Voldemort. Who prevails? Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled“ Grindelwald is a master of persuasion, a leader who doesn’t just rule by fear but by vision.

He offers wizards a world of power and freedom, making his rise both tempting and terrifying.

Unlike Voldemort, who kills without reason, Grindelwald’s methods make us question whether he is truly evil or simply… misunderstood.”

Hermione took a deep breath. Voldemort is the epitome of terror. His very name strikes fear into the hearts of even the bravest wizards. He was brutal, methodical, and insatiable.

But more than that, he was a villain who haunted us for seven books and eight movies and was the embodiment of fear. There’s a reason his downfall was celebrated more than any other.”

Draco smirked. “Fair point.”

The Final Verdict The enchanted quill stopped writing. The entire hall turned to the legendary Sorting Hat, placed at the center, waiting for its judgment.

The Hat chuckled. “Both tales hold their own magic. Harry Potter is the foundation, the legend, the timeless adventure that defined a generation. Fantastic Beasts is the expansion, the untold history, and the unfolding mystery that enriches the world beyond Hogwarts.

But which one is superior? The hat paused. “That choice, dear witches and wizards, is yours to make.”

And with that, the banners of gold and blue merged, forming a dazzling spectacle of magic and unity. The debate may have ended, but the magic of both series would live on forever.
