There weren't always dragons in the Valley, it had once been a quiet place where the woodland critters could spend their time in peace. But not anymore. Now the dragons ruled the Valley, great yellow beasts that roared incessantly from sunup to sundown, and belched pillars of black smoke into the sky. Most critters stayed far away from the Valley of dragons, yet there could be seen on occasion the few who dared venture forth for one reason or another. Even now, a small squirrel could be seen tentatively moving across the ground. This squirrel's name was Bobby.

Bobby was curious by nature, and would often come to observe the dragons of the Valley. Ever since he was a little squirrel his mother would warn him to stay away from the dragons and their Valley, but Bobby was too curious for his own good and would sneak out here every chance he got. One night nearly a week ago he had gotten close enough to touch one of the dragons. It must have been sleeping then as it wasn't making any noise. Perhaps it isn't as dangerous as everyone thinks? Bobby thought to himself. he had even given them names. The one with the long neck was Gilly, while the smaller ones were Pierce, Vault and Sam, the really big one that showed up from time to time was Big John. they didn't seem to notice when he called to them, but Bobby didn't mind.

As Bobby drew closer to the dragons, he noticed something he'd never seen before when he came at night. there were little animals there! Well, they looked little when compared to the dragons, but Bobby knew they were actually really big compared to him. These strange beings walked around on just their hind legs without any tail to help them balance. Well how odd. thought Bobby, I've never seen any animal like that in the forest. Now he was even more curious. No longer able to contain his curiosity anymore, Bobby scurried along the ground towards these strange creatures. They sure were a noisy bunch, not as bad as the dragons, but these animals were a close second.

Once Bobby was closer, he was able to watch the strange animals and quickly decided that the one in the middle that was making the most noise must be in charge. It waved it's arms around and shouted louder than any of the other strange animals. He watch as the animal pointed towards Gilly and shouted something incomprehensible, at least incomprehensible to Bobby. Then the dragon, Gilly, moved and started digging up the spot the thing had pointed towards! Bobby had never witnessed a dragon do something like that before! If I did that it would it dig me a hole too? Then I wouldn't have to worry about hiding all my food for the winter since the dragon would guard it! Such were the thoughts going through Bobby's head as he watched the dragons that day.

later that night, Bobby returned to the Valley of dragons and tried to do just as he'd seen the creature do, he pointed at a spot and chirped as loud as he could.. but the dragons didn't move, not so much as an inch. Well, they are sleeping, He thought to himself, I'll just get up on top of it and try there, surely it can't ignore me then! Such were the thoughts of Bobby the squirrel as he climbed the yellow dragon. But when he tried again from on top of the dragon, it still refused to move! after squeaking and squawking, and shouting as loud as he could, Bobby finally grew tired. Alright, you win this time, but I'll be sure to wake you up tomorrow! and so the little squirrel scurried on home where his mother waited to give him a scolding. As Bobby closed his eyes he dreamed of the nut stores he'd have when he finally woke the yellow dragon.
