Grandmother's Golden Magnolias
A grandmother's Love
As far as I can remember I had always visited my grandmother since I was a little boy. My grandmother love magnolias and golden madnolias were her favorite. She had planted a bunch of them in hef front yard flower garden. Sometimes they live through the winter and sometimes they didn't and it was the same for summer.
I am a saver unlike my brother and sister who quickly spend their alloawances on coin operated junk and insanely hard arcade games. I am also a giver for the Bible is clear that it's better to give than to recieve. My siblings once wished to be able to get a VGA card for the family's computer but a new card cost $80! I showed my siblings the $60 I had saved and they both scrambled to barely scrounged up $15 and we all asked dad for the other $5 which he said, "Which one of you will mow for free?" My sister Emily jumped up and said, "I'll do it because I want to play King Quest 5, Loom and Monkey's Island in 256 colors!"
If any of grandmother's golden magnolias died I would go to the local nursery and bye a plant. Sometimes the store didn't have the golden ones but fortunately grandmother wasn't too picky as she loved all colors just that the golden ones were her favorite.
The years has past and now I am about to graduate from college. Grandmother wouldn't miss my graduation not even for a minute. My brother Paul drove me and Emily to the university and mom and dad stayed back to help my grandmother to get ready.
It's been an hour into the cermony any my name will be called soon and there was no sign of mom, dad or grandmother! I got a Facetime request from mom and I answered. "Mom!, I yelled. "I know sweety, my mm your grandmother has to see you through Facetime", said my mom with a shaky voice. I held up the phone so all can see. I walked up to the line and then my gut hurt. Something must've happen to grandmother. I fought back tears as the President called my name. I looked like a goof ball holding up a cellphone and grabbing an empty case.
After the graduation Paul sadky looked at me and said we're heading to the hospital. The car was silent for the first time in years. The funeral was beautiful and my parents gave great eulogies. My mom said goodbye to her mother and she laid a nice bunch of golden magnolias along with the other flowers.
A few years later I met my wife and at our wedding was abunch of golden magnolias at the alter. I asked my fiance and she just shook er head. At the reception I asked everyone about the magnolias because I wanted to thank them but no one knew about it.
A year later my wife Kimberly was pregnant but there was some complications. I stood by my wife's side and prayed. "Dear God please help my wife Kimberly to deliver our son and that all will be well, amen." I went home for the night feed Neko our Japanese Bobtail cat. The very next morning our son was born and in my wife's room was a pot of golden magnolias. "Honey, where did these flowers came from?", I asked. "Gee I don't know. It's weird that these type of flowwers showed up at our wedding and now here", said Kimberly. I nodded in agreement.
I took my family home that night and went to bed. I drempt about my grandmother walking on a hill with a long, shiny white walking stick. As she was walking up the hill I can see she was getting younger and younger. She turned to me and said, "Toby, I have no more pain. I am hear to say goodbye and that I was there at your graduation, wedding, and delivery. They want me so this is goodbye", said grandmother. When she reached at the top of the hill, she looked as if she's twenty. I wokeup and told my wife about the dream. My family and I gave golden magnolias to people who are going through tough times or simply celebrating a great event.
