FROM LOST TO FOUND

A quiet reflection on starting over...

By Yakubu Grace OyizaPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

There was a time when I thought I had everything figured out. Life felt like a road that only stretched forward neat, predictable, and safe. But it doesn’t take much for a road to bend. Sometimes all it takes is one choice, one disappointment, or one door closing to make you feel like you’ve lost your way.

At first, I carried my loss like a shadow. It clung to me in the silence of late nights and followed me into mornings that felt heavier than they should. The days blurred together, and I often wondered if I would ever feel whole...

But something unexpected happens when you lose your way: you discover corners of yourself you didn’t know existed. I began to notice small things kind words from strangers, laughter that slipped out when I least expected, a sunrise that demanded my attention even when I didn’t feel ready to look up. These little reminders always whispered, you’re still here, keep going.

Healing wasn’t at once. It wasn’t a straight line. Some days I fell backward, other days I surprised myself by taking two steps forward. What carried me wasn’t some grand revelation, but the quiet persistence of time and the courage to begin again, even when it felt impossible.

Slowly, I learned that being lost isn’t the end of the story. It’s the messy middle. the part where you gather strength, where you learn how to breathe through the cracks. And eventually, it becomes the part where you find yourself again, not as the person you were, but as someone new, someone healed.

Today, I carry my scars differently. Not as marks of shame, but as proof that I survived, that I grew, and that I found pieces of beauty along the way. Losing myself taught me how to be found. And maybe that’s what life is a constant cycle of losing, rediscovering, and becoming.

If you’ve ever felt lost, know this: you are not broken. You are only in the middle of your story. And sometimes, the middle is where the most important chapters begin.
