For Now
A father shields his children from danger.
A man, black as tar, huddled with his son and daughter. His billions couldn’t have prevented this disaster. It was a full-fledged catastrophe. He shielded his children and himself from falling debris.

“You know we are, baby,” Chet Halperin said.
Halperin drew his son closer, too. The three of them proceeded to gather what they could, a can cover tablets, anything to cover their heads.
“We’re going to make it.” Halperin said it with cogent boldness.
“We’re going to live, my children,” he asserted.
