“More important than knowing how to fly is knowing where to fly. Our kind have been hunted for generations, as you well know.”

The Teacher raised a wing towards a map in the front of the amphitheater, the sun reflecting off her scales.

“Before we begin, let’s recite the mantra.”

The dragon younglings joined in with varying degrees of enthusiasm:

“We never fly out to the east,

Or else we’ll meet the savage beasts.

They mean us harm, they do no good,

So avoid all humans as you should.”

“Very good, class. Now let’s take to the skies.”
