Sharon was fascinated with Alice Through the Looking Glass. The idea that you could enter a mirror and see everything in reverse intrigued her. The ten-year-old had enjoyed the live-action version on television and pondered the story often.

She lived with her grandmother, Beth, who took her in after her parents' divorce. She slept in the room and bed with her great-grandmother, Florence. When the family moved, she hoped to get her own bedroom, but she did not.

The new house was really an old country home that had sat vacant for a few years. There was now a dresser with a mirror, which they did not have in the old house.

Sharon found it creepy each time she sat on the trunk and looked into the mirror. One night, she dreamed that as she viewed her reflection her mirror image grimaced her face, and she woke up startled.

Still, she could not stay away, so she sat at the mirror most days just staring at herself. One day, as she stood up to walk away, it appeared her image was still seated and watching her. She quickly turned her head back to look again, and everything was normal.

One day she began talking to herself and asking the mirror image if she were real or only a reflection. Suddenly, her dream came to life as the image in the mirror made a grimacing face.

Sharon ran out the back door and was afraid to return to her bedroom. She knew no one would believe her so she kept the incident to herself. She began dressing without going to the side of the room where the mirror was but she began having a recurring dream.

Sharon dreamed she would reach out to touch the mirror and get sucked inside while her mirror image took her place. She would begin beating on the glass while her reflection looked back with a wicked grin.

One day, weeks later, when she was home alone, she got the courage to sit in front of the mirror again. She kept telling herself it was only a dream, just her imagination, when a hand reached out from the looking glass and pulled her inside.

She was standing face-to-face with herself and was frightened. Sharon from the mirror announced that it was her turn to live on the outside and quickly replaced her.

The bedroom looked exactly like the one she slept in except everything on this side seemed darker, and there was apprehension in the air. Sharon ran from room to room to see if there was a replica of her grandmother and great-grandmother, but she was alone.

She tried to open a window, but to no avail. The doors were locked, and she was alone in this parallel universe. She went back to the mirror and screamed for her doppleganger to let her out, but all she saw was her own reflection.

Time passed, and she fell asleep with he head on the dresser. When she woke up, it was dark, and she wondered what her image was doing in the real world.

Sharon wanted to break the mirror, but was afraid that it might trap her. She began tapping lightly, hoping someone on the other side would hear and help her.

Eventually, her mirror image appeared, laughing at her with a smirk. She said she was enjoying the other side and would never allow her look-alike back.

Sharon begged and pleaded, but it was to no avail. She knew she had to do something quickly and came up with an idea. She began to chant

Mirror, mirror on the wall

I'm the real Sharon after all

Change things back and do it quick

Before this alternate life begins to stick

She repeated the phrase over and over and noticed her doppleganger had a strange look on her face. Sharon continued the chant, and the seventh time she said it, the room seemed to spin, and before she knew it, she was on the right side of the mirror looking in at her horrified twin.

She took a perfume bottle and hit the glass, shattering it, and her reflection was back to normal. Her grandmother purchased a new dresser, and the mirror gave off no creepy vibes. Sharon was never bothered by her mirror image again.
