Exploring the Upside Down: A Stranger Things Review
Netflix series

Introduction
The show is a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s for those who grew up in that era. The kids are pretty adorable, though sometimes they get into sticky situations. Yes, Will Byers does return somehow. Hopper's angry at a lot of people. Nancy's going through a lot right now. Oh, and there are these other new creatures too! It's gonna be a rough year for Steve Harrington (even though he doesn't seem to mind). Dustin appears to have gotten some kind of pet—and it seems like maybe he might have had something else happen with his dad too...

The show is a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s for those who grew up in that era. It's set in 1983, which was a really big year for pop culture and television shows.
The show has references to many 80s movies and TV shows, including E.T., The Goonies, The Breakfast Club, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off (though they didn't call it "Ferris Bueller").
The kids are pretty adorable.
The kids are pretty adorable. They're likeable, and you end up feeling like you want to be friends with them. They have their own little group of friends, they all hang out together, and they're just fun to watch as a whole—even if some of them aren't exactly what we'd call "normal" (like Dustin).
Yes, Will Byers does return somehow.
In the second season of Stranger Things, we learn that Will Byers has been trapped in a dimension known as The Upside Down for seven years. In this dimension he remains comatose but somehow his mom and brother were able to rescue him from danger by bringing him back home with them. It is also revealed that there are people who can travel between dimensions and bring others back from their worlds but how these people do it remains unclear at this point in time (unless someone left something behind).
Hopper's angry at a lot of people.
Hopper is angry at a lot of people. He's angry at the government, he's angry at the people in charge of Hawkins Lab, and he's especially angry at those who let Will go missing and Eleven go missing. And yes, I know we're only three episodes into this show—but we've already seen four characters die (including Matthew Modine as Dr Brenner). It's clear that these kids are pretty expendable.
In many ways, Hopper could be seen as a foil for Eleven: both of them have something that keeps them apart from the rest of their world; but while she can't leave her house or school grounds because it would be dangerous for her to do so...he has no problem leaving his home base whenever there is trouble brewing outside its walls (and vice versa).
Nancy's going through a lot right now.
Nancy is going through a lot right now. She's trying to figure out what happened to her friend, she's trying to figure out her relationship with Steve, and she's dealing with a lot of pressure from her mother.
Nancy is also trying to figure out what happened to her friend.
Oh, and there are these other new creatures too.
The shadow monster is not really scary, and it's just there to make the show more interesting. It's not very important to the story at all, so don't worry about it too much!
The shadow monster is like the Demogorgon from Stranger Things 2: The Game (which I haven’t played).
It's gonna be a rough year for Steve Harrington.
Steve Harrington is gonna be a hard one to swallow this year. He's now a single father, and he has to deal with the fact that his daughter is dating a boy who isn't "normal" human being. This can be an especially tough pill for him to swallow when it comes to dealing with his daughter's new friends and boyfriends.
Steve also has to deal with the fact that his daughter will be spending more time away from home than she already does at school or in her room reading books about sci-fi aliens (which she loves). In fact, she might even want to move out once she gets older because there are some things about her new boyfriend that just don't sit well with Steve at all!
Dustin appears to have gotten some kind of pet.
Dustin has a pet lizard, and it's not going very well.
The creature is called Dart, and Dustin named him because he feels like he can always outsmart what's happening to him.
He hasn't been able to train Dart yet because he doesn't have time—but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't try! The last thing you want is for your friend and coworker to come home from work one day and find out that all of his belongings are gone except for his lizard who is now missing its tail or something else horrible like that...
This season definitely goes darker than the first one did.
This season definitely goes darker than the first one did. The new characters are more complex and the plot is more complicated, but there's still a lot of action and scary moments in each episode (which you'll be able to tell if you've seen Stranger Things).
It is not really scary or thrilling but it has something special which keeps you watching
Stranger Things is not really scary or thrilling but it has something special which keeps you watching. It is a nostalgic trip back to the 1980s for those who grew up in that era, and the kids are pretty adorable. The story revolves around a young boy named Will, who mysteriously disappears from his house one day while his brother and sister are playing outside. As they search for him, they stumble upon another dimension called "The Upside Down" where monsters lurk around every corner waiting to devour them (or at least gross them out).
The series follows Will's journey as he tries to find his missing friend while also trying to solve what happened with him after being taken away from their family home by these strange beings.
Conclusion
I would highly recommend this show to anyone who likes adventure and mystery. If you like watching a lot of TV, then this show is perfect for you because there is always something happening in every episode.
