Exploring the Past: The Historical Events I Would Experience as a Time Traveler

The Paradox of Time Travel: Balancing the Temptation to Change History with the Responsibility to Preserve It

By Raluca Paula PiticasPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

The previous few days, as I was reading a novel that was based on historical events, I couldn’t help but wonder about what it would be like to go back in time and take part in some of those events. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and it kept popping into my head.

Authors and filmmakers alike have had a great deal of commercial success over the course of a significant number of years by delving into several facets of time travel in their works of fiction. My fascination with the concept of time travel dates back as far as I can remember. More specifically, the idea that it could be possible to travel back in time and see events personally has always held a special place in my heart. There are a few distinct times in history that, if I had the ability to travel through time, I would absolutely appreciate being there for. If I could do that, I would go back in time. In the lines that follow, I will discuss a number of these occurrences and the reasons why I find them to be so intriguing. I hope you find this discussion interesting.

One of the historical events in Egypt that I wish I could have been a part of was the construction of the pyramids. I would have given everything to have been there. How such massive structures were erected is one of the most intriguing mysteries in the entirety of ancient history, and it remains a mystery even today. It is estimated that more than 20 years were spent building the Great Pyramid of Giza and that more than 2 million individual pieces of stone were used in its construction. The experience of being a witness to this incredible piece of technical work would be one that would leave one in a state of utter wonder.

Another significant historical event that I really wish I could have been there to see in person was the act of signing the Declaration of Independence. In the year 1776, the founding fathers of the United States signed a declaration that announced the nation’s independence from Great Britain. This proclamation was read aloud on July 4 of that year. It was known as the Declaration of Independence when it was first published. In the annals of American history, the act of signing this document was a critical turning point; it would have been fantastic to have been able to observe the bravery and conviction of those who signed it.

In addition to that, I have always had a secret desire to be a member of the audience for the first flight ever made by the Wright brothers. In 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made history when they piloted the first powered flight in their airplane that they had built. This particular time marked the start of a new era in the history of how people moved around and how technology improved. A once-in-a-lifetime chance, being there for one of the Wright brothers’ flights would provide me with a better knowledge of the huge advancements that have been achieved in aviation since those historic flights, and it would be an honor for me to be able to say that I was there.

Alexander Fleming’s discovery of penicillin is another important historical event that has caught my attention because of what it means. In 1928, Alexander Fleming found that the bacteria called Penicillium notatum could kill other bacteria. He is credited with making this discovery. Antibiotics, which enabled the treatment of bacterial infections and ultimately saved the lives of untold numbers of people throughout the course of history, were developed as a direct result of this finding. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me to have the chance to watch this development in medical treatment, and it would help me gain a better regard for the scientists and researchers who have made such significant contributions to our civilization.

Last but not least, I really regret that I was not able to witness the fall of the Berlin Wall firsthand. The building of the wall that would come to be associated with the Cold War and serve as a physical symbol of the split between East and West Berlin started in 1961. The Cold War was not considered to have been formally over until the Berlin Wall came tumbling down in 1989. This event also marked the beginning of a new era in terms of how nations interact with one another on a global scale. Coming here for this monumental event would be a life-changing experience for me, and it would bring to light how important it is for people from all parts of the world to cooperate with one another.

In addition to the events that have been recounted above, there are a great many other major times in history during which I believe it would be intriguing to be present. Each of these events has had a big impact on how our planet has changed, and if you had the chance to see any of them in person, it would be an experience that would change your life in a fundamental way.

It should come as no surprise that the idea of going across time is completely foreign to the domain of science fiction. Also, it’s not likely that I’ll be able to take part in any of these things that happened in the past. On the other hand, the comprehension and the information that we may obtain through the study of history are just as valuable as being present for the real events themselves. When we learn about the accomplishments and struggles of people who came before us, we may be able to appreciate the world we live in more and be more motivated to work toward a better future.

In conclusion, if I had the capacity to travel through time, there are a number of key historical events that I would be interested in watching, such as the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the American Civil War, and the American Civil Rights Movement. Every one of these events — from the construction of the pyramids in Egypt to the tearing down of the wall in Berlin — has made a significant contribution to the development of our planet. Even though science fiction writers only made up the concept of time travel, looking into historical events can still be very educational and open your eyes to new ideas. Learning about the past can give us a deeper appreciation for the here and now and give us the motivation to work toward a better future.
