Eternal Bonds

A Love Story Defying Adversity

By Nwankwo AmarachiPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

Kelsey had always known she was different. As a little girl, she would sit and daydream about princesses who would whisk her away to a castle in the clouds. Her parents tried to steer her towards more traditional interests, but nothing seemed to hold her attention quite like the promise of love.

The first time she met Emily, Kelsey felt her heart skip a beat. Emily was new at school and had a quiet determination that drew Kelsey to her. They were paired together for a science project, and Kelsey found herself admiring the way Emily's eyes lit up when she talked about amoebas and single-cell organisms.

Soon, Emily and Kelsey became inseparable. They'd stay up late on the phone and text each other about everything under the sun, from their favorite colors to the mysteries of outer space.

But as they entered high school, Kelsey began to feel a growing sense of unease. Her feelings for Emily had become more than just a close friendship, and she didn't know how to tell her.

One night, at Emily's sixteenth birthday party, Kelsey mustered up the courage to tell her how she felt. Her heart was pounding with a mixture of fear and excitement as she confessed her love. To her delight, Emily felt the same way, and they shared their first kiss under the twinkling stars outside.

They were both ecstatic to have found someone who understood them so completely. But as they became more open with their relationship, they faced pushback from their school and the wider community. Kelsey's parents were the first to voice their concerns, citing religious beliefs and ignoring the fact that they were hurting their daughter.

Despite the difficulties, Kelsey and Emily pushed through and continued to flourish. They were each other's confidants, sharing every joy and every pain. They went to prom together, arm in arm and smiling with love, and they became the envy of every girl who wished for a love like theirs.

When it came time to apply to college, they knew they wanted to stay together. They found a small liberal arts school on the west coast and applied together. They received their acceptance letters on the same day and screamed with joy, knowing that their love had led them to the perfect school.

On their first day, the two went hand in hand. They felt the warmth of the sun on their faces and the future ahead of them, ready to take on the world. They had no idea of the challenges that lay ahead.

Days turned into weeks, and the college began to feel like a distant memory. They were met with discrimination and ignorance towards their love story, and it seemed like no one on the campus wanted them there. Their professors refused to acknowledge them and classmates would ignore them. It felt like they were living in a bubble, the whole world was against them.

But they stood strong, and as they studied and navigated college, they found joy in each other's company. They created their own little world of love and acceptance, where their differences were celebrated, and nothing could hold them back.

Their love story at times was tumultuous, but it was anchored in the unwavering commitment they had to one another. And as they graduated with flying colors and went on to pursue their dreams, they knew that the world would never be able to part them.

Years later, they looked back at their college years with a mixture of fondness and sadness. They'd faced countless obstacles, but their love had prevailed, and that's all that mattered. As they sat on their porch, watching the sunset, Kelsey put her arms around Emily and told her how much she loved her.

It was the same love that had brought them together on that warm summer night, and it was the same love that would carry them through the rest of their lives.
