Encounters at the Train Station

Faith, Hope, and Love, and the Greatest is Love

She sat, her mind lost in a thousand peppermint flavored dreams as she sipped her coffee. A warm and generous smile flowed like a picturesque waterfall across her face. Her deep, mahogany eyes glanced wistfully around the station's large and expansive waiting room.

Her mind contorted into multiple ideas with no one more prominent than the other. As always, the train was delayed again. Her phone seemed to angrily declare the news through a loud rendition of "Once upon a December." It was her ring tone, one that he gave to her after she sang those familiar lyrics to him as a type of nightly ritual.

Humming softly to herself, she transfixed her gaze onto the antique train station surroundings. The building was a true historic relic of a forgotten age of floor length dresses that rustled near the ground, grand dinner parties, and social calls. Oh, how much she yearned for him in this quiet environment filled with impatient train passengers. She longed to be next to him, her delicate fingers entwined in his as his black eyes penetrated her very soul. Smiling, his kind face etched itself into her mind once again, like a lover's kiss, entrancing her heart.

Soon, she would rush into his embrace amidst the familiar crowd at the airport. Time would slow as her soul quickened once more. Heathrow was a lonely place for him, a place of memories of her departure, but she knew that he would wait forever just to see her glowing smile once more.

The lights of the train station went dim and extinguished as the metallic locomotive cut through the thick fog that loomed over Virginia. Drawing onto the elevated railway, the train lights brightened her porcelain-like face, which was made all the more captivating by her angelic charm. Her black high heel shoes clicked on the concrete as she took her place in line to board the nearest passenger car.

A familiar and distinguished Welsh accent rang from the muffled voices surrounding her, "Little One, I'm here!"

She ran, with the elegance and grace of a fox, towards the human figure shrouded in the heavy fog. Embracing him in a hug that promised to last forever, her soul spoke, "Don't ever let me go." A million questions rushed into her mind as she held him with the entirety of her being. She mused, how did he get here?

A wry smile glazed across his tanned face, "Love is an action." The words echoed all of the joy she contained within her.

Standing on her tiptoes, her lips met his as they boarded the passenger car that would take them into eternity together. Her mind raced with burning questions that she longed to ask, but his loving glance stopped her.

"Why?" she asked hesitantly. Her body filed with anxious joy as she listened for his reply.

Taking her hand, he replied, "Little One, love is saying to another person, I will never give up on you. You have taught me that, and because of this, the world doesn't burn."

His dark eyes turned a shade of crimson, a decadent mix of love and hatred for the world that he now found himself trapped in.

"I made a promise to myself to never see you come to harm." Brushing her hair behind her ear, he whispered, "I'll never let you fall."

Her brown eyes glowed with love as her soft voice happily spoke, "Now, we can see the world together!" She paused before asking, "Where should we go first?"

"I am looking at my world now, My Little One. You are my world and you always will be."

I was captivated by the very first line and really needed to share that because it's often difficult to choose such a perfect one and you nailed it! "Peppermint flavored dreams"! Invoked the taste that immersed me immediately in the scene :)
