Welcome to Bronzeville, where everyone here is just a runner up to the runner up.
Well, that’s what it feels like growing up here. All of our schools have never won first place in any tournament. Not even against a neighboring city. This town could use talent of any sort. I think we’d take any type at this point. “Emily! Foods ready, come down please”. Ugh as I’m doing an important assignment my mom decides to interrupt. I was on the brink of something good, I feel.
This is a story of a young girl, who aspires to be a writer of some sort. Emily is her name. She is quite tall, with a fragile ego due to everyone being shorter than her. The average female usually comes about 5’7 at most, but Emily is 5’9. Nothing drastic, she just feels incompetent and loves to exaggerate the smallest parts of her life. To feel bigger than she already is. She is a popular loner, whom everyone knows and adores. The only problem her classmates see is that she's humble, even though she's the talk of her city.
“New York's big, I feel like you should take this notoriety so much more seriously ya know.”
And then there's her mother who most definitely got her popularity everywhere without a doubt. She's a class A woman, which means she married rich at the perfect time. She enjoyed the first half of marriage without kids, and once they grew tired of nightlife, home life was the next adventure for them. So many people in the upper east side envy such a couple. They're still married and know how to navigate issues to resolve in lovemaking. I think we all imagine such a life. To have it so easy.
Although it seems this story is bright and fluffy and about a coming of age. It isn't.
Emily is rich, with wealthy friends, family and is acquainted with honor. She also is a bit naïve and loves the wild side of life. That attracts destitutes who only want to use her except she wouldn't know, especially when it felt like love, at first.
Adam is a 25-year-old man. Adam is the son of an abusive con artist. He endured a traumatic life, which shaped him in the worst way. He took after his father’s personality and his mother's façade. His mother was a kind woman, sadly she was persuaded and manipulated into a loveless relationship. This exact cycle will begin again for Adam and Emily.
“Ya maybe, but doesn't it look better when I'm poised and conduct a humble presence, even though I truly am. I just feel boasting is immoral and rude” Emily replied. Emily and her mother sit in silence for the rest of the day, as they both have made each other contemplate their moral compasses. For Emily, it's the fact that she lives too humble as if she is middle class, and her mother is questioning if she is a bit too materialistic and even pretentious. They both want to experience the opposite of themselves in a way. The two are very similar but differ when it comes to moral issues at times when constructive thinking is in play.
On December 25th Emily planned a trip to Korea. She booked a stay in an Air BnB for a week to see the city and experience a different culture. At 2:20 pm she lands and lets the air BnB hosts she will arrive in an hour to check-in and if there's a code she must enter to get in. The air BnB host lets her know through text message that he owns the house and is staying in the main house. Emily rented the guest house. And he will then let her in and give her a short tour.
“Hi I’m Emily, how are you?” “Doing fine thank you for asking, oh my name is Adam by the way.” Adam and Emily greet each other and he then gives her a tour showing her every corner of the little guest house and how everything works. As he ends the tour he lets her know “If there's anything you need or any question about the city let me know. I'm here to help.” “of course I'll let you know if I need anything.” Emily goes on to shower and takes a short rest. Little does she know Adam didn't really leave the guest house and watched her undress all the way through. Aroused and erected, he then takes a fancy to her beauty. He watches her for the next day planning on how to approach her and even seduce her properly.
Emily arrives from a night out and is a bit tipsy from the drink a mystery man sent to her at the nightclub earlier. Stumbling at the front door he offers to help and she is very receptive. Adam opens the guest house door and walks her to her bed. Emily isn't as aware as she normally is at this moment. He then kisses her abruptly, and she doesn't quite react too much. As he’s taking her clothes off she mutters without mental clarity, “marry me”, and laughs.
“Oh my god I have a horrible headache, why is there a ring on my finger?” Adam lying next to her eagerly says “good morning, yesterday was crazy but at least we are happy about it.” Emily, confused, realizes she shared intimacy under the influence with the host Adam. She lets him know that “I was so drunk so it means nothing okay”. “No this means a lot to me” Adam quickly replies. Adam infatuated and in love planned a scenario to trap her. He has a lock system to his property but carries his phone as the key but purposely left it outside the property as if he dropped it by accident.
To round up such a horrific and spooky story any woman would fear, she and Adam lived together till her death at the age of 30. Her cause of death was determined by childbirth. It was the birth of their first child. She was excited about it. The years that passed she ended up accepting the fact of her abduction and falsely falling in love because of fear. When it came to giving birth she accumulated so much stress and being let out of his compound for the first time since the night she could never leave. The outside world and how it changed and even the thoughts of her family overwhelmed her. She shouted “let me out!” over and over in between painful contractions. She didn't get to meet the baby, because Emily died before being able to push him out. A C-section was performed. And a baby boy Connor was born.
