Embrace of the Ascencions

The best parts of me

By David Riley Published 3 years ago 1 min read

‘Daddy, I miss mommy.’

‘So do I, but don’t be sad. It’s a good thing.’

‘Is she coming back?’

‘No, but she’ll always be with you, and you will see her again.’

‘When?’

‘We should pray about it. Do you remember how?’

‘I’m meant to close my eyes, tell God what I’m thankful for and ask for something that helps people.’

'That’s right. Should we do it together?’

'Okay daddy.’

‘That's perfect. Now close your eyes. I’ll see you soon.’

And as they embrace, the weight of the child fades into the ether.

'I miss them both now.’
