In the frigid Icewind Dale, charismatic bard Edgin and his barbarian friend, Holga, find themselves imprisoned due to a failed heist planned by them and a con man named Forge. They were hired by a mysterious woman named Sofina to steal an item from a heavily guarded vault. Among the items, there was a Tablet of Reawakening that could revive Edgin's deceased wife, which made the heist a personal matter for him.

Unfortunately, the vault was booby-trapped, resulting in the escape of Forge and Sofina with their bounties, while Edgin and Holga were captured. After several years, Edgin is determined to escape to return to his daughter, Kira. When they finally escape, they reunite with Forge, who has become lord of the grand city of Neverwinter, keeping the Tablet behind a magically protected vault and raising Kira as his protégé.
