Drillmington: First State Community College
TSL goes on the radio to promote gun safety.
The First State Community College offered a radio station on campus as well. It was completely run by the students and overseen by two professors: Dr. Farley Maston and Professor Baden Vy.
Professor Vy invited TSL to visit the school to discuss gun safety. He tapped Hurston Cole to interview the rapper and gun enthusiast.
“Welcome to the studio, sir,” Cole announced.
“Thank you. Glad to be here.”
“Now, let’s get to it. You have your own conference about gun handling and safety. Why do you think most rappers just talk about being able to use weapons instead of the care and proper handling of a firearm?”
“I’m not sure about other rappers but for me, I just had to inject into my raps the best way to conceal, field strip, and use the proper stance.”
“Your father was in the Marine Corps. Did his training rub off on you?”
“Certainly. He used to take my brother and me to the gun range when we were eight and ten and just learn how to clean and stand up with the weapons. It was a joy even back then. Once he showed me how to use the guns, I was hooked.”
“Now, what do you specialize in pistols or rifles?”
“Well, I’m trained in both. I provide classes for both. I’m ready to use the rifle before because that’s what I was introduced to first. But my pistol game is vicious, too.”
“And it’s all about safety….”
“Absolutely. We have to know about the firearms in and out and know what to do before we have to use them.”
“Now, you also describe the certain rules and regulations of each state….”
“The US and the world. We’re of course protected by the Second Amendment. It’s different in other parts of the globe, though. Some places have extremely stringent laws while others have virtually no laws at all.”
“What’s it like in the First State?”
“Delaware is interesting. I'd say it’s moderate. It’s not like Texas, Georgia, or Florida or places like that. But you can still acquire a license relatively simply. Concealed carry is still free in the state. It makes sense but you can’t be mobile in the car, though.”
“I see. What is the best part of all of this?”
“I like seeing the kids light up when they get to fire for the first time. We have classes that last about two hours and then we go out on the range. We spend an additional hour out there just tearing into targets.”
“You get a kick out of that….”
“Yes, because they’re going to be able to protect themselves and their families. That’s big, you know? How they have the power of death in their hands to safeguard life. That’s a major thing.”
“That’s right. Now, within this teaching program, you’re offering free lessons to students of the school who have or plan to obtain licenses.”
“That’s right we’re going to bring students over to the range and teach how the firearm should be managed appropriately. In time they’ll be able to fire off as many shots as possible. We supply all the ammunition and the weaponry.”
“Alright, TSL, we would like to thank you here at First State for giving us the background on your training program.”
“It’s my pleasure. We’re familiar with school shootings and if college kids are able to fire back on this campus which allows firearms, we won’t witness a mass shooting here most likely.”
“That’s right, well, thank you sir for helping to educate people on an important issue as gun safety.”
