Dreamer - Chapter 49
don't be fooled by what others tell you

A familiar song began to play throughout my room as my eyes began too slowly open. My hand came up to mute my phone's alarm before bringing it closer to take a look as I slowly woke myself up.
3:30pm. Dammit Lex. You couldn't set the alarm for another half an hour... given me some more time to sleep in. I began to scroll through the notifications I missed when my eyes set sight on one message.
"Let's not tell your dad about me coming to see you guys... let's surprise him instead :)"
Michael. A smile spread across my face as I swiped left to open his message.
"No problem but I honestly forget if I told him already that you were coming so... he may already know."
I know. That's typically something someone wouldn't just forget if they've done or not, but you try remembering every small detail after experiencing all that you've experienced in the past few days.
"What's the plan for today? Just going to lay around the house enjoying your little 'skip day'?"
"Basically." I wrote back. I won't tell him the news about Ace. Michael doesn't need to know. Especially about the part where Ace chose me to come to his side at his discharge. Once I finished typing up the message, I pressed send before placing my phone back down, grabbing a random outfit from the closet, and headed towards the bathroom. Might as well just get this day over with. Ace is probably not the kind of man you just let wait for you.
The state of the bathroom as I entered was a constant reminder that this was the one room I should have spent some time cleaning back when I home-ified the entire house. It was a mess. Clothes from previous outfits laid across the floor. Dried toothpaste had already crusted over inside the sink. Dad's so going to kill me once he comes back home. My arms leaned up against the counter as my eyes focused themselves onto the reflection staring back at me in the mirror ahead. That girl. The one looking back. She seemed so... different. What's Michael going to think when he comes out here? That's not the girl he once knew. That girl was different. Harsher. That girl was about to go discharge a man who probably deserved to be locked up. Michael knew the girl who was once so terrified of cars that she panicked the second the driver sped up even a little. That girl, the one staring back at me in the mirror; that girl was hardcore. What the hell happened to her? What the hell happened to me?
I snapped myself out of the trance, quickly turning the shower on and stepping in. A shiver ran down my spine as my body tensed to the sharp, cold waters that hit my skin. As I let the water flow through my curls, the thoughts began to also flow through me.
Why me? Out of anyone he had known, why would he choose me? What's wrong with Rev? Obviously, anyone would've been better than me to come pick him up? He knew other people besides Rev and I; he had to. Anyone in their little circle. There had to be at least one of them who was able to pick him up today. Why did it have to be me?
Coming back to Earth, I washed the suds off my body and the soap out of my hair before shutting the water off and grabbing ahold of a towel. As I wrapped it around my body, I couldn't help but imagine the towel being a pair of arms. Lathering my body up with massages as the water dried off my skin. I snapped back to reality. Stop it, Lex. Focus. Stop thinking about them, Lex. They aren't worth it. Throwing on my clothes and quickly giving my teeth a brush, I pushed my hair back and headed out the door.
Please don't be late.

I know this chapter is a bit short but it's been four months since I last uploaded a new chapter so I wanted to get this published as soon as possible. Hopefully I'll have new Dreamer chapters coming out soon.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. There's more where this comes from on my profile, if you wanted to give them a read.
