Dreamer - Chapter 43
don't be fooled by what others tell you

Rev began walking towards where his truck had been parked in the distance and Mars took my arm in hers before she began to follow.
"Don't worry, Lex," she said to me, "this wouldn't be your last."
**
Rev had been standing up against his truck once we finally caught back up with him. He had folded his arms across his chest as one foot was propped up against the passenger's side door to keep his balance.
"You girls ready?" He asked.
"I'm not riding with you." Mars scoffed.
"How are you-" He went to ask, "You drove here with me!"
"I'll manage." She unlocked her arm from mine and began walking ahead, "Good luck, Lex!"
Of course I'd end up alone with Rev once again. "Where are you going?" I shouted out to her but she was too far away to hear; either that, or she just didn't want to answer.
"Alright." Rev pushed himself off and headed to his side of the truck, "Let's go."
"Why would you think I'd get in the same vehicle as you?" I folded my arms across my chest.
"God dammit," He leaned up against the vehicle so that his eyes looked over the top, "just get in the damn truck."
"And if I don't?"
"Lex-"
"Mars walked." I told him, "Maybe I'll just walk home."
"Do you even know where we are right now?"
No. "I'll figure it out."
"You wouldn't even know which direction to head off to."
"Maybe I'll-"
"If you just got in the truck, we'd be out of here by now." Rev interrupted me.
"Where are you going to take me?"
"Wherever you'd like to go." He took me by surprise with his answer, "We can even go h-"
"Take me to Ace." I said without thinking.
"Now?"
"Take me to Ace." I repeated myself, getting in the truck, "I'm in the truck, aren't I?"
"Fine." He hopped inside, turning the engine on and heading down the road. We past by Mars as we drove to which Rev flipped her off in response.
"You didn't have to do that." I stated.
"She deserves it."
"Does she, though?"
"She-"
"She's a nice girl, Rev." I told him, "Plus, apparently I'm a lot like her so does that mean you'd be flipping me off in the future as well or-"
"No." He answered, "Lex, why the hell would you even say that?"
"Well Mars was just saying how we were alike and-"
"Don't listen to whatever Mars decides to say." He groaned, "She doesn't know what she's talking about?"
"You mean like when she asked how many of Ace's girls you'd fall in love with?" I asked him.
He slammed his foot on the break.
"Is that why you're so content on Ace never finding out that the two of us-"
"Don't."
"-kissed?" I completed my question.
"Lex."
"Maybe you just can't stand letting Ace have what he wants.. Maybe you cannot stand the fact that Ace can get what you can't have, so you just-"
His lips crashed on mine as his fists balled the fabric of my shirt. Without thinking anything of it, I shoved him back; slamming his head against the window behind him.
"Rev, what the fuck!?" I screamed out.
Without saying a single word back, he put his focus back on the road ahead and started driving once again.
"Rev." My fingertips touched my lips where his just were as I let out another breath. What the hell was that? What the hell is up with him? My eyes turned back onto him; observing him; the way he was focused on the road ahead, the way he gripped the steering wheel, the way he kept avoiding turning his eyes to look over at me. "Rev, you can't just ignore me forever." I got out but he didn't respond.
The rest of the drive was just silent.. quiet; it felt.. odd.
**
The hospital slowly came into view. Rev turned into an empty parking spot up by the front door and got out of his truck; heading out and locking the door before I even had a chance to catch up.
"Wait up!" I shouted out, practically running to keep up with him, but he just kept moving at a much quicker pace. Once I made my way up to the glass sliding doors, he was nowhere to be seen. Shit. Was he trying to find Ace before me? What was he planning on doing? He couldn't have planned to try and make it seem as if I've been kissing him; I don't know, but knowing Rev.. he'd definitely try and pull some bullshit scheme to make Ace believe I truly hated him, or something.
"How may I help you?" The nurse at reception asked as I made my way up.
"Just-"
"You're here to see that boy." She smiled, "I recognize you from before. Go right ahead."
Great. Now I'm being recognized for knowing them. As I made my way towards the elevators, my phone began to ring. Michael. Shit, shit, shit. Out of all the times to call, why now?
My thumb slid the little green call button across the screen. "Michael," I said to him, "hi!"
"This isn't a bad time, is it?"
"No." I lied, "I'm just at the hospital-" I slammed my hand against my forehead. Why would I say that?
"About to go see your dad?" He asked.
Yes! Oh Michael, bless you for remembering that little detail. "Of course." I laughed nervously, "Why else would I be here?"
"If you want to go see your dad, I can just-"
"No. Michael, no. My dad will understand. What's up?"
"So now I need a reason to call my best friend?" He asked.
"Of course not. I was just-"
"I just wanted to hear your voice." I just knew he smiled as he said that, "Also, I wanted to call and let you know that I'll be coming out to see you real soon."
"Oh my god!" I screamed out before immediately lowering my voice as I remembered where I was at the moment, "Michael, please tell me you're not joking."
"Nope!" He replied with as much glee as I had, "We'll be able to see each other once again. God, Lex I cannot wait to hug you this Saturday."
"Saturday?" Panic rushed to my cheeks. No. No, no.
"What's wrong with Saturday?" He laughed, "You can't say you have school.. it's the weekend."
"It's just-" My mind went blank as I tried to find a reason to why he shouldn't come on that day.
"It's that dipshit again, isn't it?"
"Michael," I answered quickly, "I cannot wait for you to come Saturday. I'm going to give you the biggest bear hug you've ever seen."
"You'd have to beat me to it first." He said back, "I'll let you go see your dad now.. I just wanted to give you the good news."
"Great news." I corrected him, "I'll talk to you later, Michael. Feel free to text me all the excitement you can muster. Once I hung up, a sense of panic filled my lungs. Shit. Saturday. Why did it have to be Saturday? Rev cannot meet Michael. Michael cannot see whatever it was Rev had planned on Saturday. I let out a long breathed sigh before heading into the elevator and walking towards Ace's hospital room. Despite the day he chose, I'll finally be able to see my best friend once again.. hold him in my arms.. breathe the same air as him. As long as I keep him and Rev far apart from each other, a difficult challenge I may add, I'll probably be able to make Saturday the best day I've had in a while.
My hand turned the knob as I froze in place.
"Lex." said Ace. Next to him stood Rev and Trevor- T, looking as sternly as ever.
"What is it?" I asked.
