Dreamer - Chapter 36

don't be fooled by what others tell you

By 'Lissa StufflestreetPublished 4 years ago 5 min read

I had found myself walking towards Ace's room. I had no idea why. I just felt as if it had been a while and I really needed to see him. Something in me was telling me that I needed to see if he was doing alright. I traced my fingers along his body until they reached his chest.

His hand wrapped around my own as a smile spread across his face, "Lex."

"It's me."

"It's been too long." He squeezed my palm, "I seriously thought you've given up on me."

"It's only been a few days." I caressed his cheek, "Rev's been watching out for me."

"Yeah," He looked back at me, He tends to do that quite a lot."

Why did I come here? I can't face him. Not today. Not after what happened in that field.. with Rev.

"You okay?" He asked me. I had to tell him. He has the right to know.

"Ace." I started to say when he noticed the red mark flashed across my wrist.

"What the hell is that?"

"Nothing."

"What the hell did Rev do to you?" He asked as the door shut behind us.

"I didn't do anything." Rev placed his hands on my shoulders, "Right, Lex?"

"Right."

"Rev." Ace sat himself up, holding my wrist in his hands, "Don't you dare lie to me."

"We just got into a little argument." I spoke out hoping I would be able to resolve a debate between them two, "It's nothing, really. Honest."

"That's more than just nothing." Ace had stood up now, the cords from the machines he had been connected to following behind as he backed Rev up against the wall, "You weren't supposed to harm her."

"Ace." I tried to pull him back to bed but he pulled himself from my grip.

"Don't." He ripped a couple cords off his arms before shoving Rev into the wall, cupping Rev's cheeks with his palms, "You dumbass."

"Ace!" I screamed out, "Stop!" A tear escaped down my cheek as I fought my way between the two of them, "Fighting will get us nowhere."

"This is just between me and him Lex. Back away." Ace growled.

"I am your superior." Rev got out, "I would not do this if I were you."

"I never once touched your girl." Ace backed away, "No matter how many times she deserved it, I never once touched her."

"Ace." I pushed myself between them. I didn't fully understand why exactly I was fighting so hard to stop the two of them.. it never made a difference before.. but I mostly just wanted Ace to lay back down and rest instead of threatening a man who probably took pleasure out of this. Standing between the two of them, I realized exactly what I needed to do. "I need you to know something." I locked eyes with Ace before looking back at Rev, "I need the both of you to know something." I caressed my fingers against Rev's cheek before taking a step back from either of them.

"What is it, Princess?" Ace went to step closer to me but I held my hand up.

"I need the both of you to realize something," I said to them, "and I will only say this once."

"You can't back out now." Rev joked.

"Clearly," I rolled my eyes, "but I don't want anyone to kill anyone else after I say what I need to say."

"Lex." Rev said under his breath.

"I-" I looked at the both of them, "If I'm going to be apart of this group that you have, I want to be able to have a say."

"Of course." Ace answered quickly.

"Hold up-" Rev went to say before I cut him off.

"You can't just tell me that I'm supposed to be this purity that holds the entire group together and just expect me to allow you to walk all over me like I meant nothing. Clearly, I mean something to you guys. Obviously. You won't ever let me have my own personal space, ever." I took a breath, "I just want to do whatever I want without someone coming to me to say how it isn't what I'm supposed to be doing. I want to live my own life. That's all I ask. I was supposed to come here to start a new life and instead.. I got this."

"What's wrong with this?" asked Ace.

"What's wrong with this?" I asked him, "For starters, I am at this hospital way too much. I'm always taken out to these empty or abandoned fields to meet God knows who, and I've only been to school once the entire time I've been in this town. Once. I can't even remember the last time I played hooky from school, but of course now it's the way I am. I have never been to detention before but of course, thanks to Rev, I got detention on my very first day."

"Excuse me?" Ace stared towards Rev.

"Not important." I gestured to get Ace's attention back on me, "I don't care about that anymore. Detention is detention. The point I'm trying to make is that I want to be able to make my own stupid decisions. Of course I'll skip school with you. I'm probably stupid for even saying I'll do it, but I'll do it. My past life seems so boring since being introduced to your lifestyle. But I just want to be able to live my own life. This is my life." I was standing by the door now. "My life isn't controlled by Rev," I spoke out, "and it certainly is not going to be controlled by Ace."

"I mean-" Rev went to say when I cut him off again.

"No." I said, "My life. Mine. I control it. Nobody else can control this."

"Alright." replied Ace.

"I want you to say it."

"Me?" Rev pointed to himself.

"Say it." I folded my arms, "Say that I have control of my own life."

"I stood back and listened." Rev told me, "That's all you'll get from me."

"Say it or," I looked at the both of them, "I'll leave. I'll do whatever it takes. I'm sure after Rev's stunt, my dad wouldn't even hesitate if I asked him for us to leave this town."

Ace threw his hands up, "You can be control of your own life. I won't try and take that away from you."

"Coward." Rev mumbled towards him.

"You really going to risk losing her?" Ace said back to him.

"Guys." My voice felt drowned out.

"I'm not changing the way I am just because she isn't able to handle-"

"Rev!" Ace yelled harshly at him, "Just admit that your final piece of the puzzle won't be so suppressed to all your damn rules."

"Guys." I said to them, "I'm still here."

"You can be in control," Rev sighed, "but you have to stay."

"Now take me home." I told him.

"Now?"

"Yes. Now. I am in control." A smile grew across my face, although I was pretty sure Rev would try and break his word sometime in the future.. at least Ace had my back. Hopefully.
