After going around in a complete circle for what felt like hours, I finally found the room I needed and softly knocked on the door. My bag let out a soft beep but I ignored it, giving one more knock a little bit louder than the last. I noticed a teacher begin to walk over and took a step back.
"Hello?"
"Hi. I'm Alexis Kiele," I handed over the schedule I had received earlier in the day, "I'm the new student."
"You're late."
"I'm sorry about that. Something came up and then I got lost trying to find the room and-"
"I could give you a detention," He stuck his head out of the classroom, "but since you are new, I won't bother. Just don't let me regret this."
I gave off a shy smile, "You have nothing to worry about. This won't happen again."
"Good," He held the door open for me, "Now find a seat and sit, young lady."
I gave a slight smile before walking in and immediately noticing three familiar people. Gilbert, Jess, and Liam.
"Sit down, Alexis." The teacher whispered from behind.
I grabbed a seat near the front; away from Liam, yet right in front of Gilbert.
"Hey," Gilbert poked my shoulder, "I'm glad to see you."
"I got detention from Ms. Lanz." I whispered back
"Sounds about right," He chuckled, "You did decide to cut class on your very first day."
I stared forward at the teacher ahead. I was not cutting class. I was being held captive in a closet by a deranged psychopath who didn't even go to this school. It sounded insane, but this is what happened. I'm just not stupid enough to actually tell people that's what happened. Besides.. who's going to believe that story? Especially when nobody even saw Rev besides me. They'd probably just assume I was making up some excuse to stay out of trouble; hell, even I'd assume it and I was there.
"Alright class. We do have some writing to do, but just for today. I need to know how you all feel about yourselves. Write down the words you'd use to describe yourself, as if you were saying them to yourself, but express it in a way you would if you were writing.. let's say.. a novel. Detail it. Explain." Mr. Criank announced to the entire class as if it was an opera hall and he had been the star of the show.
I groaned, taking out a pencil and leaning back towards Gilbert's desk. "Can I-" He handed me a piece of paper before I was even able to finish my question.
"Sure thing."
I smiled before sitting back up, staring down at my paper.
I smiled before sitting straight up, staring at my paper.
I need to know how you all feel about yourselves. Write down the words you'd use to describe yourself, as if you were saying them to yourself, but express it in a way you would if you were writing.. let's say.. a novel. Detail it. Explain.
I picked up my pencil, writing my name in the upper corner before placing my pencil back down onto my desk. How did I feel about myself? How would I even see myself? If I was someone else, who would I see when I was to look at myself as I walked down the street? I closed my eyes, breathing in.. breathing out. My eyes reopened, my lips parted ever so slightly. I picked my pencil back up and stared back down at my paper.
"Me. Alexis Kiele. I see myself as Lex. A terrified little fish in a sea full of great whites. I can be courageous. I can even be brave. But that doesn't mean I still can't be a little weak at times. Everything about me is just one big act. I just want to have the power to trick all those more powerful than me. It's the only possible way to survive in this world."
I looked back down at my paper. Was this even about me? Something seemed to be missing. Was I even seeing my own self right?
"I'm confusing. I see myself as just one thing, but others seem to see me as something else. I don't even know who the real Alexis Kiele is. Hell. I might never find out the true meaning of who I really am."
I took one last breath before finishing this assignment up.
"Alexis Kiele is only just a dreamer who's afraid to see the reality of the fantasy she's placed herself inside."
I sat up straight, impressed with whatever I just written down on the paper in front of me.
"You done, yet?" Gilbert asked.
"Yeah."
"Can you work on mine?"
"I don't even know you."
"Please?"
"No." I tried to lean forward in a way he wouldn't be able to whisper into my ear without getting caught. There was no way I was going to work on someone else's paper; especially when I was technically new here and had no idea who anyone was just yet. Did Gilbert even want to be my friend, or was he only just pretending to try and get answers out of me?
"I was the one who lent you my paper in the first place but fine.. be that way."
I rolled my eyes in response.
Something else bumped into my desk and a hand grabbed ahold of my sleeve before hitting the floor, "Sorry."
I looked up to see the brown hair I've gotten to know so well over the course of the day. His eyes were no longer bright red; probably because he was unable to get high since this morning, so I was actually able to see the dark brown coloring a lot clearer now.
Liam.
