Panic and fear immediately rushed my mind. I couldn't even find myself to turn my head and get a glimpse of the person at the window.
"Lex, just let me in!" The person shouted at me once more, "I beg of you. Please!"
My hands attached themselves back to the steering wheel as my foot hesitated over pressing the petal and just smoking my way out of there.
"Please just let me in," The person pleaded, "Just get me away from him."
I turned my head to see a girl standing at the car window. Not a guy. Her hair was a bright lime green and she had tattoos going all the way up her arms. I even noticed one that she had on her chest of a heart going through a paper shredder with the words "He Broke" written on the inside. She also had a piercing on her bottom lip. Her image was a little intimidating to me.. I won't even lie. She tapped on the window, "Lex, please."
"How do you know my name?" I said, rolling down the window.
"He told me."
"Who?"
"Quit asking questions and just let me inside your fucking car." She snapped.
Before I was even able to comment, I took notice at the other person appearing in the side view mirror that made me unlock the doors. "Get in."
She hopped into the backseat and I sped off.
"Now how do you know my name?" I repeated, my eyes locked on the road as I avoided trying to look back at her. Who the hell was this? How did she know him? Why was he even here still? How does he keep coming back into my life?
"He told me," She answered, "Didn't you hear me before?"
"I could have just left you there for him to find, bitch."
"What did you just call me?"
"Nothing," I responded, "Now, who are you?"
"Mars."
"Mars?"
"Yes. Mars. You got a fucking problem with that?"
I shook my head, unable to find the next set of words to come out of my mouth. Why did I let her get in my car? What's going on with my brain right now? I used to never do anything like I've done these past few days and now.. I've just managed to let people enter my life without thinking twice about who they could possibly be. I wouldn't even be in this damn position in the first place if I just stayed home instead of walking outside to investigate a stupid note. I could've avoided everything. Rev. Ace. My fight with Michael. This girl.. Mars.
"What's that, cupcake?" She asked. I glanced back through the rearview mirror, my eyes beginning to narrow down upon her. She was staring off into the distance as her feet laid across the backseat.
"How did you find me?"
"I told you. He t-"
"Who told you!?" I found myself yelling out. My foot slammed against the pedal as the car skidded across the dark road.
"H-"
"If you said 'he told me' one more time, I swear to fucking god-"
"You really think you can hurt me?" She scoffed.
"I will if I try."
A laugh came from the backseat, "You're pretty funny."
"Just tell me who you were talking about."
"You know who it is."
"Ace?"
"Try again."
I turned to face her, "Rev?"
"Finally," She nodded, "I thought it would've taken you a couple years just to figure it out."
I rolled my eyes, turning back around to face the road once again. Of course it was Rev. I'll never be able to escape him, no matter how hard I try. "Why was he chasing you before?"
"You don't know Rev."
I'm pretty sure I do. He's horrible. Dangerous. He loves killing.. or at least shooting or holding a gun up to scare the shit out of them. "I-"
"You only know one part about him. You don't know anything about the guy that was swallowed up by the one you know so well."
Confusion filled my mind but I chose to not let her see.
"You only see the one side of him he lets you see. Rev is different.. he's kind.. he's sweet.. he-" She went to explain but I stopped her.
"He cannot be kind of sweet. I've seen him do things that-"
"That was because he never lets anyone see the real person inside. Don't worry cupcake, one day I'm sure he'll let you see it. But if he does.. it'll be too late."
"Too late?"
She remained quiet in the backseat.
"Does he really enjoy killing?"
Silence.
"Mars?"
"You'll find out the truth one day, alright. Don't push it though. It's not something you'd want to find out immediately."
Why would I want to figure that out immediately? Wouldn't I want to know more about this man before I was to get to know him? Wouldn't I want to find out why he does whatever it is that he does, or what his intentions are for doing whatever it is that he does?
"Just don't get too close."
"Why would I?"
"Don't let him in."
"I wasn't going t-"
"You don't plan to do so. How would you even do that?"
"So I-"
"Lex," She groaned. She sounded tired but honestly, so am I.
"I have to get to school," I said quickly, "Can you-"
"Just drive me somewhere far from here." She said, "Get me as far away from him as you can."
I pressed my foot onto the gas and locked my eyes on the road, my hands gripping the steering wheel firmly. I drove in silence before pulling off to the side of the road and curving into a ditch. "Okay."
"Now?"
I nodded, unlocking the doors.
"Couldn't you-"
"Just get out," My words came out harsher than I expected, "I drove you away from where he was."
She opened the door, "Maybe we could-"
"No."
The door slammed shut before her and I watched as she walked off before driving away. The smell of cigarette smoke and liquor had filled my car; a smell that had grown stronger once she left the car. I tried to keep my eyes focus on the road ahead as I drove but the smell kept coming back to me. The cigarette smoke.. the liquor.. all the smells that reminded me of Ace.
He just stood in the middle of the street. He wasn't moving and his hoodie sat on top of his head, as always, but there was something different this time. He wasn't hidden. He was in clear view. His hair had been fluffed out and his green eyes were shining brighter than anything else. "Hi princess," He said with a raspy tone of voice.
"Hi Ace," I answered, "What are you doing?"
"Can't a guy come out to visit the person he loves."
"What?"
He edged himself closer so that he was just an arms length away, "I love you Lex."
"I-"
"I can't even imagine living in any world without you, Lex."
"Ace. I-"
"Please don't ever leave me."
"I won't." I said to myself as reality came back to me. Something had come into view causing me to slam onto my brake. The car had come to a sudden stop and the bumper came just inches away from colliding with a tree in front of me. The blood drained from my face. I leaned myself back into the seat, pulling out my phone and checking the time.
7:05
Fuck. I went to power off my phone when I saw a +1 above the message icon. I clicked on the message.
"Good luck today. Missing you."
Michael. I smiled. I hoped he was done being upset with me by now. I replied back with a quick "missing you too" before powering down my phone and placing it back into my pocket. I backed away from the tree and pulled back onto the road. The rest of the drive was silent but soon enough, I made it to school safe and sound.
I walked up towards the doors of an empty school. As I walked towards the main office, my eyes fell onto the clock.
7:32
First day at a new school and I'm already running late. Of course I'd be that person. I made my way up to the front desk and introduced myself, "Hello. My name is Alexis Kiele and I'm a new student. Do you have my information on file?"
