Once I entered the waiting room once again, I saw someone who looked an awfully lot like my dad standing over by the reception desk. I tapped his shoulder, hoping my eyes didn't actually play a trick on me and this was actually some stranger I was tapping on the shoulder. I really just wanted to go back home right now. I gave him another tap on the shoulder right as he turned around. A smile grew across his face.

"What's up, Lex? Didn't you expect me to be here?"

Shit. Why is he here? Didn't he cause all of this? He wanted Ace dead. Why would he come to his side after shooting him and just leaving him alone to rot?

"I'd have to say I did not, Rev."

"Why? Ace is my friend. We are very close. I must pay my respects during his time of need."

"That's pretty hard to believe," I scoffed, "since you were technically the reason to why he's here in the first place."

His smile faded away as he locked eyes with mine. He pulled me closer so that our bodies had been pressed up against each other and brushed his lips up to my ear just as the next set of words parted from them, "You tell anyone about this little incident and I will make sure the next time isn't a failure."

I slowly clenched my fists together but immediately unclenched them. There was no way he meant that. Not after saying Ace was basically his friend. "I wasn't going to tell any-" I went to say before he placed his finger against my lips and locked his eyes with mine once more. There was a short pause of silence as if he was about to say something but changed his mind.

"I'll stay quiet." I broke the silence, "I promise you that."

"You better not break that damn promise."

"Whatever," I snapped, "I should probably start heading out now before my dad begins to worry. Go ahead and see Ace if you want just.. leave me alone."

"I'll do whatever I please."

I rolled my eyes, "Of course you would." I turned around and walked towards the outside. A cold breeze blew through my hair as I stood waiting for dad to drive up next to me. I'm never going to be able to get used to that chill, am I? I pulled out my phone and pulled up the new messages that loaded up on my lockscreen.

"Lex?"

"Lex look.. I'm so sorry."

"I know I shouldn't have acted like that.. Especially when you have to be around the dude."

"Lex."

"Please don't ignore me, Lex."

"We are the best of friends."

"Nothing could make us stop being best friends."

"Nobody could change that.."

"Not even that asshole."

"Ace."

"Lex?"

"You still there?"

"You aren't still mad at me, are you?"

"Lex?"

"Answer me."

"Please."

I closed out of Michael's texts and went to my dad's messages to text him when a new message popped up.

"Look up from your phone every once in a while. :)"

I looked up to see my dad's car, his window rolled down, "Is Ace okay?"

I nodded, getting into the car.

"Maybe I should go in.. see him.. make sure he's well taken care of."

"They aren't letting anyone through." I lied. It was better than risking my dad running into Rev.

"Really? He's that bad?"

I nodded.

"Alright. Let's go.. home?" He looked over at me.

I nodded again, turning my head back towards the window as my dad drove out of the parking lot. My brain was still processing what just happened between Ace and I. Did I actually kiss him? Did I actually physically bend down and touch my lips to his? Was that just some dream of a situation I imagined? Why would I even do such a thing? I hated him. I hate him. I'll never like him. He's an ass. Like Michael said. He's an asshole. He doesn't care about anyone else but himself.. and maybe Rev. There was no way this was all a dream. I am very much wide awake. Was I daydreaming? Daydreaming is a thing.. I must've been doing that. Yeah. That's it. I zoned out. There was no way in hell a conscious me would even considered kissing him without having a gun pressed against my temple. There has to be absolutely no way.
