“It’s crawling with press tonight. Something in the Damascus air brought out the flies?” Kate shrugged.

“When you see these guys, fully bankrolled – second thoughts?”

“None.” Kate sipped her cocktail. “I know why I’m here. No loyalties, beyond to the truth.” She gestured dismissively towards the others, “I’m not beholden to someone else’s agenda.”

Kate’s eyes narrowed in suspicion. “I expect you know why you’re here… who do you serve, Scottie Kerr?”

“Ouch. Not pulling any punches?”

“After the day I’ve had – why? The lies get very, very old…”

“For you, maybe. For some of us, they keep us alive.”
