Desert Of Sky
Microfiction

The land lay warm and barren beneath my bereft form, and I wondered if I had any chance to make it back alive. Three days, it had been, since they’d picked me up that night, drugged, from that den of demons, that Godforsaken “sorority party,” where I never should’ve been. They said they’d take me home, but this is no home of mine.
They had their way with me, of course, then deserted me in what was, in fact, a desert, filled with nothing more than hardened ground and sky. No sequoias here, friend. Only hard-packed clay, sprinkled with the occasional spray of yellowed grass, long dead, as soon, I would be. I’d found a little water there, deep beneath those blades of life. My fingers painted the earth red from the digging, but the sacrifice paid off.
I’d found no other sign of life, though, and the grass I’d swallowed had done nothing to stave off the hunger that had at first burned within me, then subsided. Sleep eluded me as steadfastly as did prey. And then I saw it. A cat, chasing a bird. I reached out one trembling hand and whispered,
“Here, kitty, kitty!”

I am glad it is just fiction, that was really upsetting and scary, that a person almost died. Great read however, it kept me on the edge of my seat. I am subscribing to you.
