The channel flickered and then turned onto the watch screen. Trina Mea sat at the anchor desk and whisked her hair with her hand.

“It is official, for the first time in decades, we have experienced a deregulation in the sectors. That’s right, with the removal of the government from the economy, the effect of inflation has given way to a status for investors and producers to engage in the markets with cheaper prices.”

US Senator from Delaware Filik Crake turned his nose. “This is an outrage. What are greedy, selfish businessmen going to do with this information but gouge the consumer? We’ve got to form a committee!”

“A committee, dear?” his wife Elana asked, delated.

“When I get to Washington on Monday, I’m going to grab all the democratic socialists. We’ll just talk. We don’t need to pore through data. We’ll just make something up like we always do. Facts? To hell with facts. Data? Dammit you don’t need ‘em.”

“Why don’t you use a few of those economists to help you?” Elena asked, still deflated.

“Well, that’s a good idea, hon’. They’re in the private sector but they promote our statist ideal with aplomb. Yes. We can indeed show to the American people that we will have order in this country.”

“That’s right, dear.”

“Oh, shut up. What do you know? You’re not a statesman.”

“No, I’m not.” Elena rose from her seat and headed upstairs.

“That’s alright. You’re going to see. We’re going to have so much power!”

Elena turned around and confronted her husband.

“Power? Is that all you want? Not to advance? Not to live a fuller life? You just want to use might?”

“That’s right. It’s the only way for the people of this nation to realize that they are being protected. That protection comes with a price. We are the philosopher kings who must lead the dolts to the water and force them to drink in order to save their lives.”

“And what, Fil’? So you can take away all the notions that we have a free market? That we can somehow understand better whatever the Fed says?”

“We have to raise interest rates, we have to have controls and regulations. The people of this country are too stupid to understand the economy. They’re terrible at finance. We have to be the mother to spoon them with bennies like welfare and foodsamps.”

“What the hell? You represent a million plus people in this state and you call them stupid?”

“I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true. You’ve got complete dullards who have no clue about how this country and the world works. Their ignorance is astounding. They have no place in creating wealth. That’s why we tax the rich. They have no place in controlling their finances. That’s why we subsidize the middle and lower classes.”

“You’re sick!”

“I’m aware! I’m aware that the government is the only tool in making Americans’ lives better. I know for a fact that Social Security and Medicaid and Medicare and other functions of government help these dumb dumbs.”

“Nevermind that these people vote for you but they support you. And now, Trina Mea is going to know what you just said,” Elena held up her phone and tapped send.

“You bitch!” He began to charge but slipped and hit his head. Hard. He lay still.

“Get up, you coward! Filik? Holy shit! She dialed for emergency crews to come.

Once they arrived they loaded him on the stretcher.

“This just in. A piece of audio with Delaware Senator Filik Crake…We’re now getting word that the senator has died from wounds he sustained after a fall at his home. Stay with us as more details surrounding this story develop.”
