Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. But I doubt anyone has ever tried to do it to see if it was true. After what those mutinous dogs did to me, I may test the Theory out myself. It will be quicker than the fate that awaits me.
My name is captain that is what they call me anyway based on my rank I never really had a name other than my rank; I was never born though more grown in a lab like others of my kind. I was only ever given a number 77325091 no one there cared to give us names as we fell to the cold floor from our sacks fully formed,
I was made in a science lab on mars bioengineered for the harsh conditions of space to be a space marine for earths secret off world military program. I am a solar Warden and until recently due to a mutiny on my ship I was the captain of the U.S.S Abrahams unlike other Wardens Who defend the earth from aliens my crew was working on deep space exploration.
We found a small abandoned draconian ship in a quadrant of space we believed they had never been to before, on the ship was a strange alien artifact of an undetermined origin or age we know it was not theirs. the crew was all dead it looked they killed each other. one of the escape pods was gone. We took the artifact aboard our ship. Within hours some of my men began saying they were hearing voices whispering to them at first, we thought their S.T.A.R suits where malfunctioning but it was the artifact, it began to poison their minds not long after my crew started fighting among-st themselves, I was in the cargo bay investigating a fire alarm when I felt the ship enter warp drive but I gave no such order I tried contacting the bridge when My second in command entered with three other Wardens and told me he had broken protocol plotted a new jump point and now we were traveling hundreds of light years in the opposite direction from where we should be heading to a destination completely unknown, Due to a voice that was speaking to him.
We began to fight and, in the melee, those mutinous dogs sealed me into an airlock and opened the door. Just before that happened my sentient tactical autonetic robotic suit or S.T.A.R for short sensed what was going to happen and engaged my helmet before I was sucked into the void.
“Captain” a synthetic voice broke the silence
“Would you like to me to tell you a joke”?
“NO STAR”!!!
“I'm sorry captain, I thought a little levity would help ease the situation”
“Well, it's NOT! going to.”
“Would you like me to give you my current breakdown analysis?”
“Go ahead give it to me”
“All right then I will start with the good news first! Speaking in a cheerful tone.”
“Oh, there's good news is there? The captain said sarcastically HA! I cannot wait to hear this”
“You see Captain I knew a joke would help”
“How did that help star? you know that it didn't help the situation!”
“Actually, for just a moment your mind shifted away from the plight of your current situation so it did help briefly”
“Just give me your report star”
"Alright captain obviously the situation is dire neither you nor I will survive this. When we were expelled from the ship, we were traveling at three times the speed of light. In the fight with the second commander my tracking beacon and long-range communications where damaged star command will never find us. My battery life support fuel pack and all other functions are however at one hundred percent currently with that and your biological enhancements and our neural link connection I should be able to keep you alive for two years possibly longer if I adjust your heart rate and reduce your metabolism the cell replications in my membrane to produce extra manna production for food air and water consumption but that will take some time and use more of my power.”
“As dire as our situation is you do have some options available to you captain.”
“Yeah, what are they?”
“First captain I would like to remind you I can read your thoughts as we are neural inked so I can read your mind I would prefer not to spend the next thousand or so years till my battery drains and I cease to function with a human corpse stuck inside of me so do not try to open your visor besides, I can override it anyway! That is option A”
“Option B is I keep you alive for as long as I can but eventually, I still get to travel the universe with your corpse or I have another option”
“I was built to keep you alive in the harsh conditions of space or toxic environments on planets and I have the ability to put you into hibernation in case you were stranded and had a long wait for a rescue vessel currently.”
“If my calculations are correct captain, I can put you in hibernation minimalism my power consumption go to sleep with you and set an alarm for a desired time then wake you up from hibernation for a few days at a time doing that we should be able to extend your life until my battery runs out.”
“Why would I want to do that!?”
“Well captain a few reasons, one we may wake up in a solar system with a habitable planet then possibly I could use my thrusters and perform emergency landing procedures to land on it, we may find another friendly alien race that will help us get back home of course we could potentially run into a hostile alien race that wants to eat you but is that any worse than our current predicament?”
“If there's a chance, I can get my ship back and settle the score let's do it!”
“Alright captain I will begin the hibernation procedures, currently we are headed towards an Uncharted M-class Galaxy given our speed and trajectory a three-year sleep should put us within that Galaxy’s outer arm.”
“What do you think our chances are Star?”
“Captain our chances are of survival are less than one percent”
The captain began to feel his heart slow as he slipped into the long dark sleep and so, it was they traveled through space periodically star would wake the captain they would access where they were stay awake for a few days then return him to hibernation this carried on for almost twelve-hundred years. While they slept in hibernation, they passed by at sixteen planets that supported life, crossed the paths of three unknown civilizations who saw them but did nothing and passed by creatures as big as planets before stars power source was exhausted. On their last time awake before all life support and power ran dry, they said their goodbyes and floated in to the void.
Millions of years later as they approached a collapsing star on the edge of the universe a ship materialized near them. a yellow beam fired forth from the craft and scanned the anomaly it found floating in space the beam turned red in color engulfed the pair and began dragging them towards the craft as its side opened and swallowed them like a blue whale eating krill.
The aliens picked up them up as if they were a child's toy. the captain and star combined stood seven feet tall and weighed four hundred and fifty pounds.
“What is this tiny thing?” the alien captain spoke in his native tongue,
“I'm not sure my lord, we have never seen a DNA strand like this before, I can tell it's been modified and despite its small size this creature seems to be quite strong it seems to have some form of symbiotic relationship with its space suit which is a weapon a means of survival and it is some form of mechanical intelligence “said the ships science officer.
“Can we bring it back to life?”
“Not one without the other but yes it can be done quite easily”
“Bring them back then I want to know more about this tiny creature”
The captain opened his eyes and found himself laying on a table surrounded by enormous strange tools. He tried to speak but could not at first his throat was dry from his long sleep. Taking a few swallows to build up his saliva he tried again.
“Star” his voice coming out like a whisper
“Star are you there?”
“Yes, captain I am here”
The captain swallowed a few more times.
“What's going on?”
“We seem to have been reanimated, your cells have been repaired it is if you just came out of your sack, my battery and life support has been restored, we are on a ship and judging from the equipment and Dimensions of this room whatever has brought us back to life is much larger than anything we've encountered so far.”
“What do you think star are they hostile or are they friendly?"
“They did bring us back to life captain”
“Maybe they will help us get back home”
“I think were about to find out captain” …..
