On an earth similar to our own, beings from another universe check the progress of the life evolving on the planet.
“Engage the cloaking device and hover at ten feet, I want a clean flora scan” commanded the captain. The research vessel descended silently scanning the forest. He saw the collision light first before the sound of the alarm reached his auditory canal. His AI Rebecca, reading his thoughts, engaged the shields mere moments before impact.
Rebecca awakened him with a cocktail of chemicals to induce clarity and readiness. The familiar bubble of a revitalization chamber filled his view. Her voice encompassed his mind, “Gilaé wants you to physically attend the trial, I will fill you in on the way.”

A Gift
She walks past the kitchen ducking under the low ceiling as she enters the family room. It may better be named living room she thinks wistfully, as she is now the sole occupant of the house. Her eyes dart around the room looking for a worn leather blue journal. “There it is”, she says aloud grabbing the small journal off the coffee table.
