Deceptionally
Behaving in a deceiving way, often to one's own benefit.
"No, darling," Leon said, crossing one long leg over the other, whiskey pinched lightly between his fingers. The light glinted off one of the rings gracing his fingers. The rest threw his face into shadow. "Do you not believe me?"
"I believe you, Leon," she said.
She was thin and pale. It was so easy to see her lies. They were red on her cheeks.
Silver eyes darkened.
"After you questioned me like that, I might think you were hiding something. You know very well I was...performing."
"No! No secret. Just wanted proof. Not that I needed it."
"Not that you needed it? Listen to you. Full of yourself after two months." He inhaled sharply. The smell of blood and perfume still clung to him. "You just want to know if I've been faithful. Hm? That's it?"
Leon ran an agitated hand along his stubbled jaw, loosened his tie subtly, and took a large drink of whiskey. He could feel himself flushing. She was pushing too hard. She'd figure it out.
"Perhaps, I will ask you a question," he said, leaning forward into a sliver of light knowing well his eyes frightened her. "Where were you?" A malicious smile split his face.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I shouldn't have asked."
"No," Leon said, swallowing thickly. "Now, get out. I'll see you in the morning."
He watched her red hair sway as she ran off.
That woman was too smart.
She was going to see through him.
