Dear Good

A conversational tribute to Renee Nicole Good

By Joe PattersonPublished about 10 hours ago Updated about 10 hours ago 3 min read

Whoa! Hey! You’re Renee Nicole Good.

Yep, that would be correct and you would be?

I’m Joe…I don’t know if you know this, but your story is one of the most talked about issues on the planet right now.

Oh is that right?

As a matter of fact it is. You died a very unjust and undeserving death and the nation is in a frenzy over it.

Oh I believe it. We are living in some troubling times and what happened to me shouldn’t have happened.

You know there are a lot of people trying to justify what happened to you.

Of course, why wouldn’t they? For them my death is a means of justifying the bad things taking place. That’s what protesting is all about.

Renee the world is at war and the war is far from over.

I know. The war is the main reason I’m no longer among the living.

So what do you wanna see everyone doing now that you’re no longer here?

Well Joe my friend I think you already know the answer to that.

I…know the answer?

Yep.

How so?

You knew something about me before we started speaking am I right?

Yeah, what gave it away?

That look of familiarity in your eyes. We have something in common.

When you died I have to confess that it really struck a chord with me. Not just because of the injustice of it all. As bad as that part is I just naturally expect it. I heard about how you were a writer and a poet.

And you’re a writer and a poet, an I right?

Yes I am. I actually just published my first book ever, which is a collection of poetry.

Well congratulations my fellow author. Based on what you just told me it seems like the war you said we were in is already being won.

What do you mean by that?

Well the best way to beat the evil that ended my life is by keeping my memory alive through the work I left behind. Have you heard of my poem I wrote called “On Dissecting Fetal Pigs”?

No, is it a poem about pork?

Oooh close, but no. It’s a poem I wrote about losing our humanity. In this poem I talk about missing the lost magic of what used to be childhood and how that among many other things in life have unnecessarily shredded in the wake of needing to understand. Not to toot my own horn here, but that was also an award winning poem.

Wow that speaks more volumes than I think you know. That’s exactly what’s happening in the wake of your death. Everyone is dissecting what happened to you and why it happened. It really feels like life is imitating art.

Or maybe it’s just art imitating life as usual. Either way I live through the memories of my life that were reflected in my art.

So that’s how we do it then? We fight back against the rogue elements that killed you by not only continuing to stand against them, but also by making sure the legacy of your life’s passions are revisited and never forgotten.

There you go. Take this knowledge and go forward Joe.

I will Renee. I’m sorry that you were taken from your family so early in your life. It shouldn’t have been this way. You were still in your prime.

You don’t have to be sorry for me fellow author. I will live on in the hearts of those who love me and the ones who now know my story. Go in peace my fellow writer, until meet again.

In loving memory of author Renee Nicole Good

I am crying! Her death was unnecessary and SOMEONE SOMEWHERE NEEDS TO STEP UP KNOCK ALL THE MURDERERS OUT!
