One of the NFL's most intense rivalries is set to take center stage on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 5. The San Francisco 49ers, one of the two remaining undefeated teams in the league, will host the Dallas Cowboys in what promises to be a clash of NFC heavyweights and a revival of a classic NFL rivalry. These two teams have faced off in the playoffs for the past two seasons, with the 49ers emerging victorious in both encounters by a narrow margin. Notably, they hold the record for playing against each other a remarkable nine times in the postseason.
The 49ers have undoubtedly been one of the most impressive teams in the NFL this season, starting with a perfect 4-0 record and consistently scoring at least 30 points in each of their first four games. On the other hand, the Cowboys managed to bounce back from a shocking loss to the Cardinals in Week 3 and regained their winning momentum in Week 4.
USA TODAY Sports will be providing comprehensive coverage throughout the night, offering the latest updates, scores, highlights, sensational plays, in-depth analysis, and more. Stay tuned for all the action.
Painful defeat for the Cowboys
The Cowboys continue to be plagued by a series of unfortunate injuries. During the fourth quarter, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch suffered a neck injury while attempting to defend against Jordan Mason's 26-yard touchdown run. Vander Esch, a seasoned veteran with a history of neck issues, received immediate medical attention and laid on the turf for several minutes. Fortunately, he managed to rise to his feet and walk off the field unassisted, making his way to the locker room.
