Coma

You wake up from a coma and the first thing you notice is a woman sleeping in a chair. The second thing you see is a lot of get-well cards as well as congratulations cards. You wake up with no memory. You have no idea who the woman is and why there are congrats cards in your room.

The woman notices you are awake and gently gets up and holds your hand. She says she will be right back. She goes and gets your doctor. The doctor comes in and asks you some questions like What is your name? What month is it? Do you know who this woman is? You answer no to all of them. The woman says her name is Haley and that she is your wife. She tells you your name is Robert.

Robert looks at the doctor then at Haley and asks will I get my memory back. The doctor says he has no idea. There is no damage to your brain. It might come back in time, it might not. You thank the doctor.

You look at Haley. You ask how long they have been together? Haley says 15 years. You ask, are they happy and do they have kids? Haley says that they are happy, and they don’t have kids. You then ask the question you have had since you opened your eyes. You ask Haley what all the congratulation cards are for? Haley says that you wrote a book, and it just hit number one on the New York Times bestsellers list. You light up when you hear this and are a little sad that you can’t remember any of it.

For the next couple of weeks while you are recovering you read your book and reconnect with Haley. Your friends and publicist stop by and keep you company.

A few weeks later you are on a plane going to your first stop on your book tour. Your fans are incredible. They absolutely love what you have written. It is the first book of a trilogy. They are comparing you to Robert Jordan.

After a few stops you notice a guy at your signings. He has been to everyone and never buys a book or comes up to you. You don’t think anything about it till the last stop. He waits till everyone leaves and walks up to you. He says he needs to talk to you.

He says his name is Bobby. He says he is the one that wrote the book. He says that you were hired to be the face of the book.

He tells you that your publicist and Haley knew all this. You thank him.

You walk over to them, and you know they knew what Bobby told you. They give excuses about why they didn’t tell you. You fire your publicist and break up with Haley. You are happy with your life now.
