Capsule Haiku

Time Capsule Haiku

By Vocal CreatorPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the small town of Higashiyama. The cherry blossom trees lining the streets were in full bloom, their petals dancing in the light breeze. People were going about their evening, some walking home from work, while others were out for an evening stroll.

In the center of town, a group of young students from the local high school were gathered around a small hole in the ground. They were laughing and chatting, excitedly waiting for their teacher to bring out the time capsule they had buried five years ago.

The idea to bury a time capsule had come to them during a history class. They had been learning about the town's rich cultural heritage and its history dating back centuries. Their teacher had suggested they create a time capsule that would capture a snapshot of their lives and the town as it was then, to be opened in the future.

The students had jumped at the chance to be a part of something that would be discovered by future generations. They had each brought an item that represented their current lives, such as a photo or a letter to their future selves. They had also written a haiku, a short poem, about what they hoped the town and their lives would be like when the capsule was opened.

The teacher arrived with a shovel, and the students gathered around as he carefully dug up the time capsule. As he lifted it out of the ground, there were cheers and claps from the students. They eagerly gathered around as the teacher opened the capsule and revealed its contents.

Inside, there were photos of the students, their letters to their future selves, and other small items. The teacher carefully read out each of the haikus the students had written, and the group listened intently.

One by one, they heard the hopes and dreams of their past selves. Some had written about their desire to travel the world, while others had written about their aspirations to become doctors or artists. They all expressed their love for the town and how they hoped it would remain as beautiful as it was when they were in high school.

As the group walked back to their school, each student reflecting on the haiku they had written, they couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for their past selves. They had all grown up and moved on to different paths in life, but for a moment, they were transported back to that time when they were just starting to figure out who they were and what they wanted to become.

Years passed, and the town continued to thrive. The cherry blossom trees continued to bloom every spring, and the people of Higashiyama continued to live their lives as they always had. But one day, a group of archaeologists stumbled upon the time capsule.

They carefully opened it and were amazed at what they found. They read the letters and looked at the photos, and they were struck by the beauty of the haikus. They were surprised at how much the town had changed, yet how much it had stayed the same.

One archaeologist, in particular, was moved by the haiku written by a student named Yuji. It read:

Cherry blossoms bloom,

Our town remains forever,

Memories will last.

He couldn't help but feel a sense of connection to the young student who had written those words so long ago. He took the haiku with him and carried it with him everywhere he went.

Years later, that same archaeologist returned to Higashiyama, and he visited the cherry blossom trees that still lined the streets. He stood beneath them, and he looked out at the town. It was then that he realized that Yuji's haiku had stayed with him all these years.

He pulled the haiku out.
