Calain And The Angel Dragon

The Secret That Gave Birth To The Dragon Friend Legacy And Changed The Future For Delmore

By Jonathan Burton Peters Jr.Published 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 9 min read

A long time before the Dragon Friend Legacy had begun there was a tragedy that almost took the life of the one that would one day become the father of the that alliance, an alliance that would save the fate of Delmar forever and change the future for the better. A life could have been lost that day, but that day there was a guardian angel.

The story starts out in Delmar in a village called Delipso, a father was taking his young son out for a hunt. That boy's name was Calain, barely even a child yet since he was roughly only two years old at the time. During this point in time of Delmar's history the humans were still fighting to survive against both the sphinxes and the fire dragons, and the angel dragons were neutral. The angel dragons didn't attack the human settlements and would have preferred to have stayed out of conflicts. No human at that point had been brave enough yet to seek out the angel dragons for help.

It would eventually be Calain that would one day seek out the angel dragons as an ally to help during the war with the fire dragons and sphinxes, if he could survive to see the future.

If an ally could not be found eventually the humans would fall and would not be able to survive in Delmar, for that reason an alliance with the angel dragons was needed. It was a matter of survival against a foe that was far stronger then any human. As well, at that point King Harold of Delmar was set against any such act. He believed that the humans would stand more of a chance if they went at it alone. He didn't believe that mankind could ever trust another kind of dragon for help in a war that would decide the survival of the human race in Delmar and whether or not mankind had a future there.

Gloria

That morning I was out for a flight down the Delmar Sea heading for the south. At the moment I was heading back to Zavior after a long flight north to scout Delmar. Our king, King Gray of the angel dragons had been wanting to know what the sphinxes and fire dragons were up to this time. Roughly a week ago the fire dragons had nearly burnt Arton to the ground, one of the few human settlements here in Delmar. The King feared that if they kept up their chaos that the humans would react against all of the dragon races that lived in Delmar, including that of the angel dragons. So he had me flying scout to the north, and for him to send his own daughter to check out our surroundings, I knew that it must have been an extremely important mission. I knew that the fate of our survival depended on it, besides, we didn't trust the fire dragons either. We needed to be sure that they weren't preparing an attack against us either.

Suddenly I smelled something that I recognized instantly, it smelled like a fire dragon. They always had the unmistakable scent of burning sulfur. Actually, it angered me to pick up this scent this far north, because that was awfully close to the human village of Delipso.

I muttered, "That can't be good, now what are they up to."

I quickly looked around myself to try to spot the fire dragon, since even us angel dragons were vulnerable to their fire. We were a fireless race of dragon with fur instead of scales, so we were especially vulnerable. The only thing that angel dragons had as an advantage compared to the fire dragons is that we possessed advanced magic.

All of a sudden from below I picked up another scent, as well I could see that below myself the woods were already on fire. It appeared like a local archer had been attacked by the same fire dragon that I had previously smelled. However, I was also picking up a sound, I could hear it as clear as day. It sounded like the cry of a child, from the sound of it the child was barely even three. I realized, the child must have wandered off into the woods when his father had been attacked by the fire dragon. It was then that I realized that the father was dead.

As well, in the same instance I heard the wingbeat of the fire dragon, I realized, he was going after the child. I quickly locked my wings and dove down, I had to get to the child before the fire dragon. It angered all of the angel dragons about the chaos the fire dragons were always up to, and sadly the sphinxes were no better. Angel dragons on the other hand would usually try to stay out of it, however, we didn't have anything against humans. Even know we definitely didn't care for the fire dragons.

In that second I spotted the child, I quickly landed and came up beside him. I could tell that he was full of dirt and had scrapes all over the place from running from something. I could also see the terror in his eyes, which should not have been there being one so young.

I muttered, "He's only a toddler, you dare to attack a child!"

In that second I sighted the fire dragon, it crept up to me and said, "Hand over the child angel dragon."

"Never, you'll have to go through me first."

I let out a deep growl at the dragon and in that second it tried to let out its flame at me, but just that quickly I released my magic and the fire bounced off of my aura, reflecting it away from myself and the boy.

I then muttered, "You will not have this child, never. If there's an angel dragon to protect a child a fire dragon will never be permitted to harm said child."

He said, "Alright then, I'll just go through you first."

He lunged at me for the attack, but I sprang forward and knocked him away with my horns. And then I released my magic again and called on a beam of light to strike the fire dragon. I then opened my mouth to release the hyper beam and the fire dragon was blown through several trees. I then growled at him and said, "Leave us dragon, you will not get through me to get to the child. If it means my death I will gladly give it before I will allow you to harm the boy."

I let out a deep growl towards the fire dragon, I was prepared to fight him to protect the boy. I might have been fireless, but I wouldn't go down without a fight. The fire dragon sprang back towards me, trying to get past me to get to the child. However, I spun around and rammed him out of the way with my full body weight. I then called on my magic again and a thunderbolt shot out of the sky, injuring the fire dragon.

"Back off, you will not harm this child. If you want him you will have to go through me first."

The fire dragon then tried again to blast both of us with his fire, but I released my magic to shield us and again the fire bounced off of my aura to leave both myself and the boy unharmed.

We might have been a fireless type of dragon, but that didn't mean that we were weak. We were dragons of the light and we would use that light to defend the life of an innocent if needed.

Just then several more angel dragons flew downwards and landed beside me, then they said to the fire dragon, "Dragon, leave, you are not permitted here. Your kind like to go around just to spread chaos. You might hunt the humans when we aren't around, but if we are you'd best back off."

The fire dragon gave a growl, but then decided that he had had enough, he was going to look for easier prey. So in that moment he sprang into the air and flew away. I knew why he decided to leave though, he didn't want to fight all of us just to get to a small boy.

I then looked back at the boy and carefully walked up to him, by then the child had stopped crying. I knew that the fire dragon had killed his father, but we had saved his life however.

I then turned to my father and said, "Father, I'm going to take the child back to Delipso. The boy's father is dead, killed by the fire dragon, but I will not leave the child out here to die."

King Gray then turned to me and said, "Go Gloria, but be careful, we don't know if there are anymore of these fire dragons nearby."

"Trust me father, I will. Right now the only thing I'm worried about is the welfare of the boy, we must get him back to his own kind, there he will be safe, at least for the time being."

I then carefully picked up the boy by the back of the collar and sprang into the air, I then turned around and headed for Delipso. I didn't know his name, but I knew that he would be safe now since we had ruined the fire dragon's hunt.

I gave several powerful flaps and sped up some more, keeping an eye out around us to make sure that I wasn't being pursued by any unwelcomed company. Currently I had the boy tucked up against my chest with my paws, careful to keep a tight hold to him.

I wished that the fire dragons would leave the humans be to live in peace, but it seemed like they didn't like the fact that humans also lived in Delmar as well. They could always be found causing trouble around the villages while angel dragons on the other hand did no such thing. It didn't bother me that humans had come to Delmar, they didn't do anything to the angel dragons that would cause us to hate them. At most they tried to stay to themselves as well.

As I was flying I thought of just how much the angel dragons could teach the humans about this land all of us called Delmar. They had never even been far to the north yet to where the sea was almost always frozen.

About an hour later I spotted the village, usually I wouldn't approach it, but this time I was going to make an exception. I then carefully tipped forward and brought my wings out further to flap against my direction to slow myself for a landing. As I came down I saw the city guards looking at me in surprise. They must had never seen a white angel dragon before, as well, I knew that they also saw the child that I was holding against my chest.

As I came down for a landing I carefully held onto him with one front paw and tried my best to use the other one to try to land safely. It was hard enough to land on a decent day, but it was even harder to do it with three legs. Somehow though, I managed to actually come down safely.

I then carefully set the child down on the ground in front of me, and then backed away to allow the guards to run up to scoop him up. I heard one say, "That's Jason's son, Calain, but where is the father. As well, why does the child smell like sulfur."

I then told the guard, "The boy was attacked by a fire dragon, the father is dead. However, I managed to save the child and chase away the fire dragon."

I then opened my wings and flew away before the guard had the time to look back at me. I wondered what they would do with the boy, because now he was an orphan. However, I realized that I would never know. Still though, I had the strange feeling that I would see him again one day, but I couldn't figure out why. For now though, the child was safe, he would live to grow up and hopefully grow old, and one day, I knew that we would end this chaos from the sphinxes and fire dragons and that would be the day when the world could be at peace.
