There was one family living in Breezers village, father, mother and two sons.

Fathers name was Cyrus, now Cyrus was a hard laborer, whose main duties were harvesting and planting trees and vegetables. He worked for local farmers, who provided him with job opportunities and food supplies.

He had two sons, Decimus and Amias, Cyrus favorite son was Amias, Decimus was older brother.

Well Decimus didn’t get much love from his father, neither did he receive any presents or gifts like Amias did.

Mother cared for both of them and loved her two sons equally, she didn’t see difference, but unfortunately she died young. Her name was Sarah.

Decimus was good worker, local farmers were fond of him. He was working long hours to make some money.

Amias on the other hand didn’t need to work much, as his father took care him. Amias had all he needed, good clothing, nice food etc.

One day Decimus came home drunk, from time to time he liked to drink, because he was working hard and needed to relax in some sort of way.

And Decimuses biggest critic was of course Amias, he loved to reproach his older brother.

It happened way to many times, but this time Decimus just couldn’t tolerate it anymore and in his own defense, Decimus started to yell at Amias.

But Amias didn’t hold back as he was quite wile and vicious. So they started to argue almost got in to a fight.

Cyrus heard his sons arguing and rushed in to a kitchen, and took his beloved sons side, now Decimus is one against two.

Decimus knew what ever he has to say, it will be pointless, so he turned around and went straight to bed.

He’s friends and coworkers knew why Decimus was drinking, due to a lack of love from his family and mainly from his own father.

After that some years went by and Cyrus became older he decided to write a testament (a will, leaving his house and full property) with animals and harvest in Amiases possession.

Decimus heard news about his father’s will and became furious. He knew that Cyrus loved Amias more, but didn’t thought he will give him everything.

After that Decimus packed his bags without saying a word and left. He didn’t go far, stayed in that same village, Decimus found new job, one farmer offered him deal (to work and buy house with installments), which in his case was okay.

Amias got married to farmers daughter, who wasn’t that pretty and very evil person, she hated his entire family.

That woman’s name was Erwin, she took care of everything - finance, food, main responsibilities, basically anything was under her control.

Cyrus was living with them, till one day she got tired of him, Erwin thought he was dirty and smelly old man.

She decided to move Cyrus and his clothes to barn. Amias didn’t say a word about it, he even helped his father to carry clothes and belongings to barn.

That place where Cyrus moved was very cold and gloomy. Of course there was a fireplace, but that didn’t cover anything.

Decimus was working two shifts - night and day, he didn’t visit his family, only on holidays, but not always. He was living very poorly in small house, and to live in that house he needed to work like a slave.

There was a young woman who helped Decimus a lot, she was bringing food and drinks to him, so Decimus can be able to work and don’t loose his strength.

Decimus saw how caring and generous that woman was, and he fell in love with her, Decimus didn’t know what real love was since his childhood, when his mother passed away.

Eventually he married that nice woman, her name was Jane.

They lived in that small house and worked together, honest diligence pays of right? But not in Decimuses case, poverty still took place.

Back to Amiases place, as Cyprus didn’t have water or shower in his place, he asked Erwin to prepare bath for him with warm water.

Erwin didn’t say no, she agreed to do so, at least that’s what she said. When she invited Cyrus to come inside, Erwin took bucket filled with cold water and splashed it all over him.

Amias knew what she did but as usual he didn’t say a word. Poor old man went back to barn, covered himself with blankets and tried to sleep.

Whole night Cyrus was suffering from fever and headache, he was in pain. No one even brought him medicine or at least provided a warm space.

Breezers was small village where everyone knew everyone, and almost everything was delivered as quick as possible. It is difficult to hide something, as rumors spread and bad things are revealed fast enough for locals to hear it.

News about Cyrus was all over village, Amias neighbors saw how he and Erwin treated that poor old man.

And of course it caught Decimuses attention, he was so upset about what happened to his father, Decimus couldn’t possibly imagine how could Amias allow his wife to do that.

When Decimus arrived Erwin was ready for action, she knew he will come, they start to yell at each other, Decimus wanted to hit Erwin, but Amias stood in front of him.

Decimus didn’t want to fight them, it was just anger tantrum, which ended eventually.

Then he went to barn to get his father, Cyrus was very ill, Decimus had to carry him.

Obviously Decimus spent more then they did, which made his life even more difficult in financial terms. The guy could barely make a decent living.

Amias and Erwin on the other hand were living the life, their cattle and harvest business was blooming.

Decimus worked even harder then he used to, but that didn’t change anything. One they he was coming home from job, Decimus was cursing everything and everyone.

Asking God, why he was so damned? What bad things he did to get this? Pronouncing Gods name he heard something mowing and laughing in shadows.

Decimus slowly got closer and grabbed that thing, he then choked it and asked, what or who it was? It replied and said that his name was Shadow, Decimus asked again, what does it want from him? It said, that he is his misfortune and reason to Decimuses sorrows.

Shadow said that he followed him since his mother’s death. And that Decimus was blinded by alcohol to see it.

Then Decimus took that thing and threw it in wooden box, sealed it with nails and chains and on middle attached big cross.

Decimus was thinking where to bury that thing. He then went up a hill dug a grave and placed Shadow there.

That same night Decimus noticed how his life changed drastically, next day everything worked out greatly for Decimus, he was earning money like never before.

After saving money he then bought new house, and all cattle, chicken and pork from local farmers. Now Decimus became richest farmer in a village.

Amias heard unpleasant to him stories and tales about his brother, the hater couldn’t believe and stand it how Decimus became richer then he is.

So Amias and Erwin decided to pay visit to Decimus and Jane. They welcomed them, even though releationship between Decimus and Amias wasn’t that good. But still he forgave his brother and put everything aside.

They both spoke to each other like never before, Amias saw how naive his brother was and used opportunity to get out information from Decimus.

Decimus revealed whole truth to Amias, even said where that thing was buried.

That same night Amias said goodbye to Decimus and Jane, took Erwin home and rushed to the hill where Decimus buried the Shadow.

Amias demolished the hill, looking for that box, lost his mind and strength, but still managed to find it.

He removed chains and nails, threw the cross out and released the Shadow. Then told it to go back to Decimus, Shadow started to laugh and replied to him: Thank you for releasing me! Decimus was beating and choking me, but you saved me. Now I’m gonna stay with you forever!
